How to make a Jasmine running costume

Last updated June 9, 2026 by Becky 2 Comments

A look at how I put together my Jasmine running costume:

I’ve been trying to do all of the princesses as costumes for Princess race weekend, and in February 2020 Jasmine was still one I needed to cross off my list.

I will be totally honest – I had avoided Jasmine a bit because I wasn’t sure how to approach her outfit. My preference was to be close to the movie, but I was very insecure about my stomach. (in retrospect, I’d give a lot to have that body back!).

But the years of 2019-2022 were probably when I was at my most confident and happy with myself, so I felt like it was time to tackle that one!

Fast forward to 2026. I’ve done a number of Princess races that it’s time to start thinking outside of the box. I had a few ideas in mind, but then Jenn asked if I would want to coordinate something with her. She was planning a Prince Ali costume for the half, and she knew that I had picked up a red Jasmine-inspired top during Crowned Athletic’s big clearance sale.

I agreed to be “red Jasmine” to go with her Aladdin theme. We also had Erika join us as blue Jasmine, so that was fun!

I’m not talented enough to actually take pieces of fabric and sew them to make a costume or anything, but I do like to try and put together bits and pieces to assemble a costume myself rather than buying one. Nothing wrong with that of course, and there’s some amazing work out there for sale! I just like the challenge and fun of crafting. And I also like to be unique. So most of what you’ll see me make starts with a base layer of a shirt/skirt/ etc. and then I add some details here and there.

Since I never got around to writing a blog post back when I did my original Jasmine running costume, today is a two-for-one deal! I’ll walk you through how I put together both outfits.

Here’s how I put together my blue Jasmine running costume!

Jasmine’s outfit is often shown in several different shades of blue. I had a sports bra already that I was planning to use, so I picked the rest of my outfit and accessories to match that.

When it comes to Jasmine, I think the pants really make a big difference! Back in 2019 there were fewer options on Amazon, so I had to search outside the box a little for blue Jasmine-inspired pants. I ordered this pair from bellydance.com (many similar versions are now available if you’re a fan of that prime shipping though). Underneath I wore regular blue running shorts.

I always recommend that you do at least one test run in your costume before wearing it, and this outfit is a good example of why! The pants had strips of sequined fabric hanging down, and while that looked pretty, I found myself potentially tripping over it when I ran. Easily fixed with a good number of safety pins, though.

The sports bra I already owned. For many years my chosen sports bra was the Brooks Rebound Racer, but they stopped making that one so I cannot link you to it. But obviously you should run with whatever sports bra you feel most comfortable in! Or tank top, or whatever.

In order to make it look more “Jasmine,” I bought some sequined blue fabric that matched the pants. I used two short strips to drape on my shoulders and secured this with safety pins as well. Also important to test this out to make sure you have enough arm movement!

Finally, the accessories. Jasmine’s headband is an iconic part of look, and I purchased a Jasmine-inspired running headband from the company Sparkly Soul. It was a little bit on the cool side that morning, and my ears are very sensitive, so I also put a plain thick black running headband underneath it. For socks, I like compression socks for half marathons. I have a pretty big collection of socks from Pro Compression, so I just used the color I already owned that was closest to my costume (though it didn’t make a huge difference since you couldn’t see much of them with the longer pants anyway!).

And here’s how I put together my red Jasmine running costume!

Part of the reason why Jenn suggested red Jasmine for me was because she knew I already had the tank top I’d gotten from Crowned Athletics. It’s part of their old line, so no longer available, but it was called the “Arabian Nights” tank if you wanted to try and find it on poshmark or something like that. Crowned Athletics now has an official Disney partnership and has been releasing new princess outfits, so I wouldn’t be surprised if we see some new Jasmine stuff soon.

Since I already had the top, it was really about the details and accessories I could find for this one. And the pants, of course! I went with a similar style of pants in red. These didn’t have the sequined strips, but they did have very long side slits. I had red shorts underneath and pinned the slits closed as well.

And accessories! There aren’t a ton of accessories that Jasmine wears, but there are still a few things you can add to this look. She has a snake cuff bracelet on her arm, and that’s the one thing I really wasn’t able to re-create in a way I was happy with. I did order one from Amazon, but I didn’t like the way it looked and it felt a bit too restricting.

So I decided to try for her other big jewelry piece, the earrings. Now, I actually can’t wear earrings, so if I do they are usually clip-ons. I did find a pair of clip-on earrings that felt like they were the right style. Truthfully, I wasn’t sure about running with them, but figured I could have them on for a few pictures and then take them off and put them in my hydration pack’s pocket. I also actually put some KT tape on the backs to hold them on. They didn’t bother me running and I left them on the whole time! I’m glad I did because I think it really added to the look.

For a headband, I didn’t anything I loved and figured I’d scope out the expo. When she’s in her red outfit Jasmine is wearing a simple gold crown. Sparkly Soul came through for me again! This headband is actually their Aurora-inspired piece, but I thought it worked pretty well here!

Finally, I had Rajah with me. I found this small Rajah plush at Target. I clipped him to my hydration pack while I was running. He held on pretty well until the last mile when he tried to make a break for it! Luckily my other Jasmine, Erika, was right behind me and rescued him.

That tiara is actually pretty versatile; if the have another sale next expo, maybe I’ll pick one up!

Thanks for going along with my Aladdin nonsense. 😂❤️
