For the 2015 Princess Half Marathon I decided I wanted to dress as Anna, one of my newest favorite characters from Disney. I actually did make a pretty good amount of costume – maybe not entirely from scratch, but a lot of DIY went on! So here’s the low-down on how I did my awesome Anna costume in case you want to try it as well!
For my shirt I bought a plain black tech shirt to start with – I got mine at Target for about $10. Then I bought fabric paints in pink, gold, green, and purple. I pulled up a picture of Anna’s shirt from the movie and did my best to try and replicate it. I did do it freehand, so you can tell it’s not perfect in spots, but it served its purpose!
I was lucky enough to have a running skirt given to me for review purposes on the blog, and this one from Lily Bomb Athletic Wear was absolutely perfect. If you were interested in making your own I’m sure you could, but I loved this one with the flower details and the gold band at the top. It was perfect!
The running cape was something that I didn’t want to try my hand at. I knew that running with a cape might not be the easiest thing so I didn’t want to make it myself and do a poor job. I bought this one from iGlow running on Etsy and it worked really well. It looks awesome and was pretty comfortable! I did end up safety pinning it to my shirt because otherwise it moved around too much, but otherwise it was great.
Another element to the costume that I thought would be important was a way to replicate Anna’s boots. I always wear compression socks when I run, so I bought plain black ones from Amazon. I used the gold fabric paint to do the design from Anna’s boots freehand. I painted them while I was wearing them, which was a little tricky but made sure that they looked the way that I wanted them to when they were actually on.
To complete the look I made sure to put my hair into two braids, just like Anna’s! Since it was chilly in the morning I had a throw away jacket to keep me warm, but it got nicer later on and I was able to toss it after about a mile. One of my favorite costumes so far!
