A look at my new orange bird mug 2022 from this year’s Flower and Garden festival:
If you’ve been reading my blog for a bit or you know me at all, chances are you know I’m a big fan of Orange Bird. Of course, everyone else is these days too, but I’m going to be stubborn and “hipster” and stick with my “I liked him before everyone else did!” line. Because my orange bird obsession goes way back, to a time when there was almost no merchandise so I literally bought everything with him on it. That wasn’t crazy at the time because there wasn’t much. Now, of course, it would be impossible (or just very expensive!).
So I have to be a little more picky with my Orange Bird merch these days. He’s become one of the mascots for the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival, which means he gets tons of merch over there. And I have to admit, the items and designs they came up with for this year I have totally fallen in love with. The Flower and Garden Festival *might* be my favorite Epcot festival in general anyway, since I love the spring and the fresh flavors of the food booths. So it’s hard to resist!
When I saw the orange bird mug they were releasing this year I was definitely in love. His adorable round head is just perfect for a mug and I don’t know why this didn’t exist sooner, but luckily here we are. And I am extremely lucky because I had a few friends who were at Epcot for the first day of the Festival, so I asked them if they could pick this up for me. Not only did they do so (and gift it to me as a travel agent thank you gift!), they got me some of the additional orange bird merch including the trash can salt/pepper shaker and the t-shirt. Did I mention I have the best friends?
On the back you have the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival logo. I’m a fan – I like how it’s fairly simple but still there as a reminder for where this mug came from. I was actually a little surprised that they didn’t include the year on it, because I like having those memories. But I guess I have this blog post to remind me as well!
What’s in my mug: I will be honest, this month has possibly been one of the most overwhelming and stressful of my life. I had tried to make a commitment this year to finding more balance in my life and trying to ease my workload, but I have not been able to get there yet. Which is why when I saw Expedition Roasters was releasing a “highly caffeinated” coffee I needed to add that to an order. It’s called Thunderstruck and it’s a Thor inspired coffee. It’s only sold as whole beans, so I even purchased a bean grinder to drink it. And it’s really good – it’s definitely strong and has a very robust flavor.
What I’m currently reading: Given the busyness I mentioned above, I haven’t had a ton of time to read. I do listen to audiobooks, which is great because I can put them on while I’m driving to work, doing laundry, cooking dinner, etc. Recently I finished the audiobook version of I Must Betray You by Ruta Sepetys and it was really excellent. I’ve also just started Golden Boys by Phil Stamper on audio, and I’ve loved all of his previous YA books. Oh, does it count that I’ve also been reading the Flower and Garden Festival passport my friends brought back for me in preparation of my trip next week?
