Disney mug of the month: Orange Bird

May 6, 2016 by Becky 18 Comments

Disney mug of the month (1)

Last month I shared with you my Zootopia mug and mentioned that I love Disney mugs and have a number of them.  So I figured I’d share a new one every month to make sure I’m getting good use out of them!  The one I started using this month is probably my favorite.  It features a “lesser known” Disney character, the Orange Bird!  If you’re not familiar with him, he’s the symbol of the Sunshine Tree Terrace, which serves my favorite Disney snack – the citrus swirl.

I got this mug from a friend of mine – a friend that I don’t even know who she is!  I participate in a program called “Pixie Dust Pals,” which is a group of girls who do a secret santa sort of thing, except it’s all year long.  You send a gift to your assigned pal once a month.  We all fill out surveys with our likes and dislikes and that sort of thing.  So my pal knew that I was a big fan of the orange bird and got me this mug!  I can’t wait until I find out who she is so I can thank her 🙂

The Orange Bird was big back in the 70’s when the park opened, and then he disappeared for awhile.  They brought him back and he’s been pretty popular ever since!  And I’m certainly glad about it – he’s cute, he’s my favorite color, and he represents my favorite snack.  Win all around!  Plus with this awful weather we’ve been having (come on, it’s May!) I’m definitely “thinking orange thoughts” and looking toward my trip to Disney in a few weeks!

What I’m drinking:  Vanilla cinnamon nut coffee from Target.  It’s a light roast and pretty nice.  It smells great!  Definitely a coffee kind of week for me.

What I’m reading:  I just started Catch Me if you Can, the autobiography by Frank Abagnale.  I just started rehearsals for the musical Catch Me if you Can, so I thought I would read the book to learn more (If anything you’re probably more familiar with the movie with Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio).  His life is actually a fascinating story.  He was basically a con artist – forging checks, taking on different identities, etc.  But the real kicker is that he did it all between the ages of 15 and 21.  And he was so good at what he did that he actually joined the FBI after he got out of jail to investigate other people like him!

What’s in your mug this morning?  And what are you currently reading?

This is so cute! I’m starting a Disney mug collection so it’s fun to see different ones that aren’t the typical ones in the park, at Disneyland at least.

I love your mug! Lately I’ve been alternating between my pioneer woman mug and my Disneyland Paris mug!

I’ll definitely have to pick up a Disneyland Paris mug while we’re there 🙂

Pixie Dust Pals sounds like a wonderful program. How’d you find out about it? I’d love to join in on something like this because I love all things Disney but don’t have the ability to visit right now.

In my mug this morning: Free coffee that my university is giving out for finals week!

Currently reading: For Whom the Bell Tolls!

The program is actually a group of girls who we all met on facebook while we were planning our weddings – we were all either getting married at or honeymooning at Disney! I’ve thought about organizing something similar through the blog for Disney fans – kind of like a blog swap, if I got enough people interested!

I’ve never understood the fascination of the orange bird 😛 He’s cute, but there are so many other cute characters!

Haha I think there are a couple of reasons! I mean for me he’s not only cute but he’s my favorite color (which tends to be a more rare color for characters) and the citrus swirl is my favorite treat. But I think a lot of people like him because he has that retro feel too.
