How I created the look for my Dr. Facilier disneybound:
Usually when I create a disneybound, I already have a character in mind. Sometimes it’s one I’ve come up with, and sometimes it’s to coordinate with a friend who is disneybounding.
But every once in awhile I just take a look in my closet, see what colors I have going on, and challenge myself to put something together.
If you’re not familiar with what Disney Bounding is, you can read about it here.
That was the case with my Dr. Facilier disneybound, and it worked out really well! I wore it in February for Princess weekend. Although he is the villain, it felt appropriate since he is from a Disney movie. Plus it was just recently Mardi Gras, which is when the movie takes place.
I wasn’t sure if it was too subtle, but several strangers commented on it and recognized it, which made me happy!

Basics of a Dr. Facilier disneybound
Like any disneybound, you have a lot of freedom with how you express the character. But I think there are a few key things for each one that help to keep that character’s essence. For Dr. Facilier, you want to make sure you stay in the color palette. That would be various shades of purples and maroons, with some red and black thrown in. I personally think some sort of top hat or nod to that accessory is important, because it’s probably what stands out the most about his outfit.
Top & Pants
The colors I wore are slightly brighter than Dr. Facilier’s outfit, so if you wanted to go darker you could. I think the most important thing is for the shirt (or vest) to be a lighter purple than the jacket. I used a purple t-shirt I already had (I think just from Target). If you had a purple crop top that would be an even better fit – my current weight is just not in a place right now where I want to wear a crop top!
I’ve had this cardigan in my closet probably for close to 10 years. I originally got it from a Stitch Fix, but I found a similarly colored cardigan on Amazon. I felt like it went with the color palette well! Plus it was a cooler night in Epcot during February, so I was glad to have another layer.
The pants are athletic pants I had from Fabletics. They are the “powerhold” leggings (with pockets!) in the burgundy color. Any leggings or pants (or skirt) in a burgundy, dark purple, or even just black would do!
Accessories
This is really where your disneybound comes to life, and I think the accessories make a huge difference for this one!
Dr. Facilier has a pretty prominent thick red belt. I happened to have a flipbelt (which I use for running) in red, so I wore that. You could use any red belt or even a red scarf tied like a sash.
Of course, his top hat is probably the most iconic part of his outfit! For me, I like to try and walk that fine line between disneybound and costume. I felt like a full-sized top hat would be too close to a costume, so I found a small fascinator-sized top hat. This is the only thing I bought for this and it was under $10.
The top hat I found was all black, with a black feather and some black ribbon. I removed all of that and glued on a red ribbon and purple feather.
That’s where I ended my disneybound, since it was rather last minute. But there are a number of other things you could add to it! I wore my sneakers since I would be walking the parks and wanted to be comfortable, but I did at least pick an older pair that had the black and purple color scheme.
Dr. Facilier has what looks like brown or black shoes with white spats. Anything black, white, brown, or maroon would work well!
I did feel like I was missing out on a necklace, but I didn’t have anything that quite worked. The most obvious would be to get a necklace with a bone or two. Anything sort of gothic or with a skull would work, but creepy isn’t usually my vibe. If I had more time I probably would have considered going in a different direction – maybe a tarot card on a necklace as a nod to the card scene.
Tips for the perfect Dr. Facilier Disneybound
- This disneybound can be flexible for the weather. You could have a light cardigan or a heavier jacket if it’s cool out. For warmer weather, consider a thin scarf around your shoulders (or just no jacket at all!).
- This look would also be very cute with a maroon skirt in place of the pants, or even a purple dress replacing the pants and top.
- The red belt and top hat are really key – otherwise any combination of purple, maroon, or burgundy clothing should get the message across!
- If you have anything that might fit the Dr. Facilier vibe, use it! Maybe that’s a skull pin that you put on your jacket, or something with purple feathers.

I cannot for the life of me remember taking the nighttime photo but I definitely remember taking the tree photo. 😅
I think we may have parted ways and I ducked into Epcot for just an hour or two! That is photopass anyway 😉 But you definitely nailed the tree photo! You’ll get more practice at it soon too haha
lol, that explains it
