You’ve been voting for the whole month of March, and now it’s finally time to reveal the winner of the Disney villains tournament! Our final two were a surprise to me, but I think they are some great choices! I originally anticipated that we would see more classic villains in the finals, like Maleficent, Cruella DeVil, Ursula, and the Evil Queen. Now that I think about it, I have a feeling I expected that because those seem to be the characters who are always on the Disney merchandise when they make anything villains related!
Well clearly they should be putting Dr. Facilier and Hades on more merchandise, because they are our final two. (And how cool that would be? I would buy so much Dr. Facilier stuff! Disney, I hope you’re listening…) From The Princess and the Frog and Hercules respectively, they are from relatively newer films (at least within the past 25 years or so). While they are evil, they are more complex characters than just the typical “evil villain” which also makes them much more entertaining. But which one was the favorite amongst the voters at Disney in your Day?
The winner of the Disney villains tournament is…
Hades!
While my personal pick would have been Dr. Facilier, I can totally understand Hades gets so much love. He’s evil – the god of the underworld, after all – but he’s also funny and interesting as a villain. He’s got some great villains sidekicks with Pain and Panic. And fun fact: when the film was first in production Hades was going to be a much more serious villain, voiced by Jack Nicholson. It wasn’t until Nicholson left the project and they auditioned James Woods that they decided to take Hades in a much different direction. Woods actually ad-libbed many of Hades’ lines!
Did you vote for Hades? Who would you choose as your favorite Disney villain?
Hades is, in fact, my favorite Disney villain so I am delighted by these results!
I’m pretty happy with this outcome. Solely because I’ve never actually *seen* Princess and the Pea, so I know nothing of Dr. Facilier’s character. Hades is just so evil and lovable simultaneously, and that’s why I think he makes a great champion!
That is definitely a villian I would expect to win! This was a fun tournament to follow! Keep doing these (:
Thanks – I have a lot of fun organizing them!
