Unfairly Ever After: A Glitterbomb of Villainy and Vengeance

A review of Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After by guest blogger Dan:

Unfairly Ever After - Disney in your Day

Please welcome a new guest poster to the blog, Dan! Dan has experienced the new Villains show in Hollywood Studios, Unfairly Ever After, and is here today to share his review.

Unfairly Ever After: the basics

Location: Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood Studios
Attraction type: Live stage show
Opening date: May 27, 2025
Run time: 18 minutes

About Unfairly Ever After

The new stage show in Hollywood Studios, Unfairly Ever After, is a live performance. It is located behind Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and replaces the show Lightning McQueen Racing Academy. The show features popular Disney villains, music, and an interactive ending.

Disney gives the following summary of the show:

“Enter the realm of the Magic Mirror—where dozens of villains are trapped! They want the Mirror to reveal the truth: which villain has been treated the most unfairly of them all? Watch as Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook and Maleficent present their cases on stage, persuading with wicked wisdom and wisecracks. Will you be swayed by their hijinks and humor? It’s a spellbinding show with moving music and a most memorable finale—where you help decide who has been treated most unfairly.”

A Glitterbomb of Villainy and Vengeance: Dan’s review

“It’s some sort of fever dream of a bunch of kids who grew up on Glee, High School Musical, Mean Girls, Scary Movie, and who were given a gigantic budget and no drug tests.”

That was my first thought.

Because Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After doesn’t walk onstage – it death drops. It doesn’t open – it emerges. With lashes, lighting cues, and a knowing wink that says: “This? Oh, honey. This is for us.”

It’s theater camp with a corporate credit card.

It channels the final scene of Showgirls, but with MAC Cosmetics footing the bill and emotional direction by whoever still runs the ‘sassy Disney villains gifs’ Tumblr.

And I mean that with love.

Unfairly Ever After - Disney in your Day

This isn’t just a show. It’s a 12-minute divine intervention. The curtain rises and suddenly you’re not in a theme park anymore. You’re inside the subconscious of a gay theater kid who never really recovered from being cast as Scar in middle school but grew up to choreograph villainous runway walks in their NYC apartment at 2am while yelling “ICONIC” at their reflection.

Maleficent

Maleficent? Baby, she floats in like the patron saint of sapphic vengeance, every fold of her cape tailored to filth and fury.

Hook? Full drama teacher at a magnet school with tenure and unresolved feelings.

Captain Hook

Cruella? Please. Please. That’s not a performance – that’s a summoning. She vogues out of a lipstick ad and lands in a Joan Crawford nightmare with LED trim. She’s not here to steal puppies. She’s here to snatch souls and serve silhouette.

The set design feels like Baz Luhrmann was locked in a dressing room with five Red Bulls and the ghost of Edith Head. Gilded frames spin, animated scenes flicker, and a disembodied Magic Mirror judges you harder than your ex’s new boyfriend.

It’s all wildly overproduced in the best way – like someone whispered “camp” and a dozen Imagineers ran with scissors.

And the music? It serves pop bops dipped in villainy. Not full Broadway – but full Broadway-adjacent, with that specific flavor of emotional oversinging usually reserved for Elphaba understudies and senior showcase auditions.

You don’t walk out of Unfairly Ever After talking about plot.

You walk out quoting Maleficent like she’s your lawyer.

You walk out strutting like you’re late to a villain board meeting at Vogue.

You walk out whispering, “Oh my God… they really did it.”

Because for all its glitter and glitch, this show knows its audience. It knows who sat through three-hour Fantasmic! reboots praying for just one line from Yzma. And it knows who cried when they saw Descendants was giving kids a new kind of costume to wear on Halloween. It knows who kept rooting for the villain – not because we loved the evil, but because finally, someone had a little flair while losing.

This isn’t a redemption arc. It’s a celebration of being unapologetically too much.

And for twelve short minutes, that’s not just allowed – it’s spotlighted.

Hi, can Dan please review everything? Because not only was this the wittiest thing I’ve read in a while, it made me want to fly to Florida immediately just to see this show.
Also I need to find the “sassy DIsney villain gifs” tumblr.
