Some of my favorite Disney Encanto quotes:
When Soul came out last year I fell in love with it, and I figured it would be awhile before a Disney film resonated with me in such a way again. I mean after all, something that hits you so hard can’t happen all the time, right? Well, Disney decided to prove me wrong because I’ve found all the same feels and love for their newest movie, Encanto. I loved it when I saw it in theaters and even more now that it’s on Disney+ and I’ve watched it a second (and third) time.
With Encanto there are so many things to love, but the music really hits me and resonates with me. The lyrics of Lin-Manuel Miranda are of course (in my opinion) brilliant, and they capture so many different emotions and themes. I wanted to put together another post of my favorite quotes and just took notes on which lines hit me and were ones I wanted to remember. Well, it turns out it was a lot. Even after parsing down the list a bit I found that I still have about 20 Disney Encanto quotes to share!
These aren’t all “inspirational” quotes (though a lot of them are), or funny quotes, or really anything that follows a particular pattern. They are all just things that I felt were meaningful for one reason or another. Because there are so many I did try to group them into themes, but as you’ll see there’s a little bit of everything.
Inspirational quotes from Encanto
“All I need is a change; all I need is a chance.”
This is from the song “Waiting on a Miracle” sung by Mirabel in the beginning of the movie. As someone surrounded by people who all have special powers and gifts, she is stuck constantly feeling like she’s not good enough. But it’s clear she has spirit and motivation and can (and will) do amazing things. Sometimes we all need a little change and a chance.
“The miracle is not some magic that you’ve got – the miracle is you.”
One of the main messages in Encanto comes down to the fact that even with magic, it’s not just about that. It’s about the people themselves. Even if you don’t feel particularly blessed or talented, remember that you do in fact have lots of things to offer.
“What can you do when you are deeply, madly, truly in the moment?”
I’ve been vibing pretty hard to this song (“What Else Can I Do?”) sung by the seemingly perfect Isabela. I think she’s felt like she has to put on this show of perfection her whole life, and in this moment she finally gets to let loose a little. I love this thought about what you might be able to do if you let go of trying to be something you’re not.
“Wonders surround you – just let the walls come down.”
Similar to the sentiment above, I feel like there is a strong message in this film about letting go of inhibitions and just embracing change even when it’s scary. I love the visual that if the walls come down there may be so many beautiful things behind them.
“I think it’s time you learn you are more than just your gift.”
One of the major struggles the characters in this movie face is the fact that, intentionally or not, they have all basically been reduced to one quality – their “gifts.” Luisa is seen as the strong one, Isabela as the perfect one, Pepa as the emotional one, Bruno as the bearer of bad news, etc. It defines them and makes it seem like they have nothing else to offer. By the end of the movie they are starting to learn they are complex people with so much more to offer.
“So full of stars, and everyone wants to shine. But the stars don’t shine they burn.”
I absolutely love this quote and I’m still trying to parse it out and interpret it a bit. But I love the fact that in the beginning of the movie Mirabel sings about how she wants to be able to shine like the rest of her family. Here she concludes that stars don’t shine, they burn. There is a difference between shining and burning. “Shine” has all positive connotations but it’s also something that’s just surface level. “Burn” is something very powerful, and still beautiful in many ways, but it can be negative at times too.
“It’s not symmetrical or perfect, but it’s beautiful”
Love this reminder that things don’t have to be perfect – and not only do they not have to be perfect, they can still be beautiful even when they have flaws.
Disney Encanto Quotes about Self-Doubt
“Who am I if I can’t carry it all?”
One of the themes in Encanto I felt really strongly was the feeling of having to “live up to something.” Luisa has been blessed with strength, but because of that she is expected to take on everything and is at a breaking point. I have certainly felt this same sort of pressure in my life.
“What can you do when you know who you want to be is imperfect – but I’ll still be okay?”
I kind of love the doubt and hope that are both in this quote. We often have a hard time feeling like we can’t make mistakes, but everyone does all the time. Imperfection is not something to be ashamed of and we will be okay.
“So much hides behind my smile.”
I feel this one pretty hard. As someone who has struggled with mental health issues in the past, but who works in a public facing job and can put up a really good show in front of people… this line is really relatable.
“I’m so sick of pretty, I want something true, don’t you?”
It’s hard sometimes to think that people truly would agree with this because people are always drawn to things that are “pretty.” But I’d rather have something real.
“Under the surface was Hercules ever like, ‘Yo, I don’t wanna fight Cerberus?'”
Going back to Luisa and that theme of constant pressure and expectations, I love this line for the parallel it draws to Hercules but also because it shows the trap of comparison we can fall into. If it seems like everyone else is fine doing everything without problem then we should too, right?
“Wait… how do I save a miracle?”
You have to admire Mirabel’s pluck! She’s immediately like “yeah of course, I’ll just go save the miracle!” And then has that moment of – “oh, how do you actually do that?”
“I thought we would have a different life. I thought I would be a different woman.”
This line is Abuela reflecting on her life, and it’s really powerful in that moment. I think life usually goes in a way that you don’t expect. Just because something doesn’t go the way you think it will doesn’t mean it can’t still be beautiful.
Quotes about Family in Encanto
“I wish you could see yourself the way I do. You are perfect just like this. You are just as special as anyone else in this family.”
Mirabel’s mom Julieta isn’t prominently featured in the film, but she is a pretty amazing character and mom. Despite some of the other potentially toxic family relationships, mom is legit. She truly sees Mirabel as special. Everyone should have someone to tell them “you are perfect just like this.”
“You are exactly what this family needs.”
Mirabel has felt so out of place her whole life, like she is “lesser” than everyone else. Hearing this is pretty powerful.
“Sometimes family weirdos just get a bad rap.”
If you’re different, or “weird,” not everyone will understand you. Often that’s expressed in a negative way by others. Mirabel and Bruno both share this feeling of being outsiders and treated unfairly for it. I like to see the moments of them together in the film because they are able to create a special bond.
“We have no gifts, but we are many. And we’ll do anything for you.”
Though not technically part of the Madrigal family, this line is sung by all of the townspeople who have basically become their family. The Madrigals have helped out the village with their powers and gifts for years, but even without powers the others in town can still help them in amazing ways. You don’t need magic, you need to build strong relationships and help people when they need it.
“And nothing could ever be broken that we can’t fix together.”
When the family comes together and truly supports each other, they can fix their problems.
Disney Encanto quotes about Growth
“I may not be strong, but I’m getting wiser.”
Learning and gaining wisdom through our struggles is one of the most important things we can do. I love this line which shows that Luisa is learning about herself even when her powers are failing.
“And so afraid of change in a world that never stops changing / So let the walls come down – the world will never stop changing.”
This might be my favorite lyric out of any of them. It’s from the song “Two Oruguitas” and that whole song really spoke to me. I’ve gotten better at embracing change, but there are still so many people who are incredibly fearful of anything changing. We can’t live that way because everything will always be changing. But if you embrace it and let the walls come down, even though it’s terrifying, you’re going to have a more fulfilling life and experience overall.
“I wanna feel the shiver of something new.”
Sometimes we get stuck in our lives and what we think is expected of us that we don’t get to experience new things – which is one of the greatest parts of life.
“Ay, Oruguitas – don’t you hold on too tight. Both of you know, it’s your time to grow – to fall apart to reunite.”
Again from my favorite song with a great message. We can’t cling to the things (or people) we feel comfortable with if we ever want to grow and truly become who we are meant to be.
Funny quotes from Encanto
“Maybe your gift is being in denial…”
Mirabel may not have a gift, but she tries really hard to be optimistic! Or as one of the neighborhood kids might say, in denial.
“Well anyway, I think you should go because… um, I don’t really have a good reason. But if I did you’d be like, ‘I should go because that’s a good reason.”
Bruno has a lot of pretty funny lines but I’m a big fan of this one. Mostly because it’s pretty relatable. I often feel this way when I want someone to leave me alone.
“The magic is strong – and so are the drinks!”
Abuela knows what’s up in the Casita Madrigal.
“You got your party pants on?”
Mirabel’s dad gives this line and honestly it 100% sounds like something I would walk into a room saying.
“Always hungry. Never satisfied.”
This was a quick throwaway line that Bruno kind of mutters about the rats but when I caught it on the second watch it cracked me up. Mostly because I relate to that sometimes. And so does my cat.

I am wondering if I can send a few of these to be printed on a poster size. I am doing a girls camp in June and “The Miracle Is You” is our theme.
