AbracadaBar at Disney’s Boardwalk

Read on for my AbracadaBar review and for all the info on this lounge:

Abracadabar is a nice addition to the Disney Boardwalk. It’s been open for about 10 years now, and they have some fun themeing and good (and strong!) drinks. I suspect I’ve probably been there maybe 5 or 6 times since it opened.

As you might have guessed from the name, AbracadaBAR has a magician theme.  It’s got lots of fun little touches.  The posters on the wall seem to advertise different magic shows, but look closely – they magically change throughout the evening!  There’s tons of other stuff in the display cases to look at too, so see what you can discover.

You’ll want to check the menu for the most up-to-date information, of course. At the time of this writing there were three small plates – a cheese board, crab fries, and wings.

I haven’t tried these items as we are typically not there for the food. But if you needed a snack with your drinks they do have a few options!

Hoodunit’s Punch (Captain Morgan’s Spiced Rum, Orange Juice, Pineapple Juice, Coconut):

This was Jason’s choice as he is the one between the two of us who actually really enjoys the fruity drinks the most.  It’s what we like to call a “cruise ship style cocktail”; easy to drink.

The Conjurita (El Mayor Blanco Tequila, Cointreau Liqueur, Simple Syrup, Lime Juice):

Taste wise it’s a typical lime margarita despite the color, but good quality. The cool thing is that when you order it the drink it changes color when they pour it from a dark purple to a lighter purple/pink! It’s the only one on the menu that’s really “magical.”

The Vanderberry (Glenfiddich 12yr Whisky, Licor 43 Liqueur, Amaro Averna, Cynar Liqueur):

This is the one I ordered on our most recent trip, and I will be honest – I had to look up what some of those liqueurs were! Licor 43 is vanilla-flavored. The other two are bitter, herb-based liqueurs. Like the other drinks here, this one was definitely very strong! A good sipping drink.

Pepper’s Ghost (SKYY Pineapple Vodka, Habanero, Lime):

Another extremely strong one – but this time it’s spicy, too! I don’t think it would be my jam, but Jenn was drinking this one. I believe she liked it, although I think we were all just commenting on how strong the drinks were for the most part 😂

Negroni (New Amsterdam Gin, Carpano Antica Formula Vermouth, Campari Liqueur):

A typical cocktail, you probably know what you’re getting if you order this one. Like everything else, they don’t skimp on anything and it’s also quite strong!

Parlor Trick (Four Roses Bourbon Small Batch, Simple Syrup, splash of Soda Water): I don’t have a photo fo this one, but it’s very good (again, simple, and you know what you’re getting). I really like this brand of bourbon, and I made my own version at home: the recipe is here.

The drinks used to be more themed when they first opened, too. To my knowledge, the Conjurita is the only one that has any sort of magical themeing now. Most of them do still have magic-inspired names, but even some of those got cut. We used to have the “Coney Negroni,” in reference to Coney Island, and now it’s just a Negroni. Even the garnishes used to be a bit more with the themeing!

I really think with a few changes, they could really do a lot with this place. It doesn’t have to be completely immersive, like Trader Sam’s or Oga’s Cantina. But leaning more into the backstory and the magic is what Disney does best.

At this point, I see Abracadabar as a place I’d go to get a drink if it was convenient, but not something I’d go out of the way for. As you may have noticed if you read this whole review, the drinks are strong! If you’re looking for some bang for your buck and like classic cocktails it’s a good option. There’s a few fun options, but most of the drinks on the menu are not your more creative or unique ones.
