How to put together a Muppets birthday party

Last updated June 11, 2026 by Becky 2 Comments

All about how I put together my Muppets birthday party:

Muppets birthday party - Disney in your Day

I am ready for the Muppets to make their big comeback! My hope was that it would be in 2011, when The Muppets with Jason Segal and Amy Adams came out. I absolutely loved that movie, but it didn’t quite take off (though we did get Muppets Most Wanted – also very underrated!).

But things are looking good for the Muppets again. Mayhem was a great show on Disney+, and the newly reopened Rock n Roller Coaster starring the Muppets in Hollywood Studios looks amazing. Hopefully the one episode of The Muppet Show with Sabrina Carpenter guest starring will lead to a full re-boot of the series.

For my birthday party this year, I knew I wanted to do a Muppets theme! As an adult, my parties have a big focus on food and drink. But I still like to plan some activities and other things to go along with the food! And of course I do my best to add some fun decorations.

If you want to put together your own Muppets birthday party, here’s a look at some of the details and ideas I incorporated.

Muppets decorations

I got creative when it came to the decorations, because it was hard to find Muppets-specific stuff. I felt like there were a few different directions I could go in – rainbow themed in a nod to The Rainbow Connection, rock ‘n’ roll for the Electric Mayhem, or theater-style in reference to the original Muppet Show. Ultimately I decided to mostly focus on the theater, because I felt it incorporated all of the Muppets the best.

I really like to get some fun tablecloths, because they are an easy way to really set the scene. I mostly had these red and gold tablecloths, though I also supplemented with some solid gold and red. Movie theater themed decorations hung from the ceiling to add to the atmosphere.

This “Now Showing” banner was actually nicer quality than it looked on Amazon, and I hung it above the food table. I printed and taped on the words so that I could potentially re-use it in the future.

There was also a second Happy Birthday banner that was rainbow colored which I bought at Dollar Tree. I took this and printed pictures of Muppets, then glued it onto the banner to make it Muppets-themed!

Another major decor area was the photo booth. The backdrop was a theater curtain backdrop, which I hung on the wall.

I kept the plates pretty simple, just using a “Kermit green.” I did buy these Muppet babies napkins, even though the Muppet babies are not my favorite. They have the names of the Muppets on them so they were pretty close to applicable. There were a few extra names, but I don’t think anyone noticed!

Finally, I already owned a number of Muppet items and knickknacks, so we spread those around. The old vinylmations are coming in handy! I had a Kermit puppet hanging out too.

In order to label all of the food and drink items, I created my own party food tents and printed them. I added some Muppets, and they were very easy to print and set up. Definitely an easy way to add to the Muppets theme.

Muppets party food ideas

I put together a small menu of food items. These included more appetizer/snack type items, a few more filling entree-style dishes, and desserts. I’ve found that it is best to keep it as simple as possible while still being on theme!

Opening acts

Charcuterie Board: I personally love a good charcuterie board, so I wanted to make a Muppets-themed one. Perhaps I spent way too long planning this, but I thought it was pretty good the way it turned out! I included some meats and cheeses that were a nod to several different characters. We also had little toothpick flags to label them. Items included:

  • Kermit’s herbed goat cheese
  • Gonzo’s blue cheese
  • Animal’s spicy Jalapeno jack
  • Rizzo’s New York Cheddar
  • Miss Piggy’s Port Wine infused cheese
  • Pepe’s Spanish charcuterie

Most of these items were from Trader Joe’s. I had a general cracker assortment to accompany them.

Miss Piggys in a Blanket: your traditional pig in a blanket.

Dr Bunsen Honeydew

Rainbow Connection Fruit Skewers: I put together a skewer of 6 different fruits to create a rainbow. I used a strawberry, cantaloupe, banana, kiwi, blueberry, and grape. The centerpiece was Dr. Bunsen Honeydew! I bought a honeydew melon and put a pair of my old glasses on it. One of the easiest and most effective decorations!

Features

Pizza bagels: In honor of PizzeRizzo, I had some mediocre frozen pizza bites. I served both plain and pepperoni.

Swedish meatballs: No food table would be complete without something from the Swedish chef, of course!

Grand Finale

Banana Cream Pie: Of course I used Fozzie’s own recipe for his Banana Cream Pie! It was the easiest version I found to make, and everyone seemed to really like it. You really only need bananas, banana cream pudding mix, and Cool Whip.

Beaker Cookies: I really loved how these turned out! I took milano cookies and decorated them to look like Beaker. I chose to buy orange chocolate milano (because they are delicious, and also because orange felt appropriate with Beaker’s hair. Any flavor would work though!). I had orange and black icing for his mouth and hair, and then I added edible candy eyeballs and an orange Reese’s Pieces for the nose.

Cookies, Rice Krispies, and Cakesicles: The true highlight, though, was an assortment of cookies, rice krispie treats, and cakesicles. I did not make these! I ordered them from Miana’s Cakes, a bakery based in Florida. Although she can’t ship everything, there are lots of cookies and other treats she will send all over the country. And look at how incredible they turned out! I just told her I was doing a Muppets themed party and this is what I got. Everyone absolutely loved them! And not only did they look fantastic, they tasted amazing too.

Backstage Snacks

Popcorn: I did also have popcorn available for while we were viewing the Muppet movies. But there were so many other goodies that we never got around to it!

Muppets themed drinks

I love making creative and themed cocktails, so I brainstormed a lot of ideas before finally settling on this menu. A good combination of easier drinks that still fit the theme, and one or two more interesting ones!

Muppets cocktails

I prepped as much as I could ahead of time into pitchers so it would be easier day-of. Some of the drinks also really benefitted from the containers they were served in, so I’ve noted here what type of glasses or cup I used.

Regal Eagle Blackberry Moonshine Sour: This recipe was inspired by the drink available at Regal Eagle Smokehouse in Epcot.

Regal Eagle Blackberry Moonshine Sour

Ingredients: Moonshine, Blackberry syrup, blood orange sour mix, lemon juice
Presentation: Served in mason jars with fresh blackberries

Miss Piggy’s Precious Pink Punch: There is an old Muppets cookbook called “The Muppet Picnic Cookbook.” I based this recipe off of a drink I found there (that one didn’t have alcohol in it).

Ingredients: cranberry juice, pineapple juice, lemon juice, vodka, ginger ale, prosecco
Presentation: champagne flutes

Electric Mayhem Rum Punch:

Muppets birthday party - Disney in your Day

Ingredients: Light rum, spiced rum, orange juice, cranberry juice, pineapple juice, lime, ginger ale
Presentation: I got these reusable plastic cups (my thought was a “concert style” way to serve). I used my cricut machine to print the Electric Mayhem logo on vinyl, and then I applied it to the cup for a fun souvenir! The final touch: a glow cube.

Heckler’s Highball:

Ingredients: Whiskey, soda water, lemon
Presentation: Tall glass

Muppets Labs Experiment: I wanted to do something unique, and attempted a color-changing drink. It didn’t work quite as well as I hoped, but I got there eventually. When you added the pipette to the drink it would turn from blue to purple.

Ingredients: Tequila infused with butterfly pea flower tea, Grand Marnier, simple syrup, lime juice, optional flavorings
Presentation: I had fun with this one! I served this drink in plastic beakers, of course. The lime juice, which is what activates the color-changing quality of the tea, was in a pipette that was placed on top.

Muppet Soda:

Ingredients: Ginger ale, flavored syrups (grenadine, blood orange, and blackberry)
Presentation: I went with “Kermit green” cups and fun straws for this one.

Muppets party games and activities

Since this is a gathering of adults, we don’t need constant games and entertainment (or at least, most of us don’t!). But I still like to provide a few fun activities. While a lot of time was spent chatting and catching up, we pretty much always had a Muppet movie on too.

Muppet Movies

Muppets Movie checklist

There are plenty of Muppet movies to choose from, and if you have Disney+ they are (almost) all easily accessible.

We ended up watching The Muppet Movie and Muppet Treasure Island. We were going to try and watch Muppets from Space, but it turns out that it’s not available on Disney+. I looked it up later and it seems like you can get it from Netflix or Amazon Prime Video. It’s also available on DVD with a few other titles not on Disney+. I might have to buy that, because I want to own as much as I can, just in case we ever lose things to streaming!

After everyone left, Jason and I also watched Muppets Most Wanted.

Photo booth

I had a photo booth area set up for people to take pictures. There was a backdrop, and I made some fun photo props.

My friends did a great job getting into character and dressing up for the party!

Other activities

  • Muppets Mad Libs was a fun and easy party game that can get some good laughs.
  • Muppets Clue (the board game)
  • Coloring & activity sheets

I came across a few other fun ideas that I didn’t end up using. I was hoping to get the time to create a trivia quiz or some games like I did for my Moana party, but I ran out of time. A “guess the quote” or “which muppet are you” quiz would be fun, in addition to some general trivia. And perhaps better for kids, but I thought “pin the nose on Gonzo” would be fun!

Muppets birthday party favors

How often do you go to a party as an adult and get a treat bag to take home? Rarely, unless you count wedding favors! I am very grateful that my friends come to my parties, and I like giving a fun little token to them!

Muppets birthday party - Disney in your Day

For the bags themselves, I got brightly colored solid bags. I then decorated them with my paint pen markers (so useful for so many things!). Each colored bag had a nod to a specific matching Muppet. So I wasn’t drawing a picture of that Muppet, but a string of pearls for Miss Piggy, or just Fozzie’s hat and nose. This is an easy way to represent the Muppets, since I’m not much of an artist!

Then I had a small thank you tag that I attached to the back of the bag.

Here’s what I put inside each bag:

  • Several Kermit stickers
  • A movie clapboard keychain (I customized each one using a chalk marker to write the name of a different Muppet movie)
  • 2 Muppets themed buttons (I made these myself using a button maker and creating the designs)
  • Candy

Where to get Muppets birthday party supplies

It was much harder to find Muppets party supplies than I expected! I’m assuming it has to do with copyrights and licensing, but there’s really not much out there – official or unofficial. A few items were on Amazon for Muppet babies, but for your regular old Muppets – nothing.

Etsy had a few things here and there, but not much in the way of party supplies. I suppose it’s possible that there are just not that many people having Muppet-themed parties! Which is a shame, really.

Luckily, the Muppets are so versatile that you can take this theme in several different directions. You could always choose one Muppet movie and theme your party around that (lean into outer space themed party supplies for a “Muppets from Space” theme, for example, or focus on NYC for “Muppets Take Manhattan”). The majority of my party I decided to go with the Hollywood/theater theme, but you could also go heavy on rainbows for “The Rainbow Connection” or music/rock & roll for The Electric Mayhem.

I also made a lot of stuff myself, because I had a vision and couldn’t always find the right things to match it. A lot of the items I created are easy to print, and I now have some of it for sale in my Etsy shop.
