Instructions for how to make this Snickers Snickerdoodle recipe from Epcot’s Festival of the Holidays:
‘Tis the season for baking Christmas cookies! For better or for worse, I really got into baking Christmas cookies when I was in college. I would have a month home for winter break, without too much else to do. I kind of made a name for myself with friends and family as a Christmas cookie baker, and there’s no going back now!
Even though I sadly have a full-time job that does not in fact give me a month off, I still plan in time on my weekends to bake Christmas cookies. There are the family favorites that I have to make every year, but I also like trying something new.
I’ve joked before that snickerdoodles are kind of the “go-to” cookie. They are good, but they’re pretty basic and common. I went to a Christmas cookie swap recently and told Jason I needed to pick something more interesting than a snickerdoodle. And yeah, there were like 4-5 different snickerdoodles at the party)
But a snickerdoodle is a good cookie! I like making them, and I like eating them. But I also like experimenting. So when I saw that Epcot’s Festival of the Holidays featured a snickerdoodle that is made with Snickers candy bars, I knew that was the one I wanted to make!
In Epcot, this cookie is part of the Festival of the Holidays cookie stroll, where you get a little passport and can get it stamped for trying different cookies. If you try 5 on the list you get a bonus cookie, only available to those who complete the cookie stroll! Getting rewarded for eating cookies with another cookie? Doesn’t get much better than that.
The Snickers Snickerdoodle has been around for a few years, though it’s changed locations a few times. This year it’s at the American Adventure booth.
A few quick notes/tips for this Snickers snickerdoodle recipe that I picked up:
- I recommend keeping your Snickers bars in the fridge, or even stick them in the freezer for 20 minutes. They will be much easier to chop up that way.
- I found the cooking time to be a little short when I made them, but my oven is quite old. The second time they go in the oven, bake them for 8 minutes and then check to see if they need to stay in longer.
- This recipe has drizzled dark chocolate on top, but the cookie has also been made in the past with a sugar icing drizzle. I did some of mine with chocolate and some with icing. Both ways are good, it just depends on what you prefer!
- For drizzling the chocolate, there are a few different ways you can do this. I just used a spoon, but that meant I had some areas with a thicker coating of chocolate. If you want the thin drizzle they have at Epcot, I’d put the melted chocolate into a pastry bag. You could also use a ziploc bag with a very small hole cut in the corner.
