Some formal Disney outfit ideas for signature meals, Disney cruise line, photoshoots, weddings, and more:
I love to get dressed up when I visit Disney World – you can take some great pictures and there are so many great Disney outfit ideas out there! When it comes to fancier occasions, I’ll absolutely use that as an excuse to dress up as well. Whether it’s going to a signature meal at Disney World, formal night on the Disney cruise, attending a Disney wedding, doing a photoshoot, or even for Dapper Day, there are lots of reasons to get fancy.
For me it’s easy to find some formal Disney outfit ideas because there are so many Disney dresses, jewelry, etc. But for Jason it feels like there are fewer options. While we’ve come across a few Disney ties before with things like Mickey Mouse or the Haunted Mansion wallpaper, I just never found as much variety. So when I saw all the options on Cufflinks.com I was excited and suddenly had lots of formal Disney outfit ideas for men or anyone who prefers to wear a tie!
Thanks to my Cufflinks.com for supplying the free product to help me write this post today! As always, all opinions are honest and entirely my own.
Formal Disney outfit ideas for a photoshoot
One thing I absolutely love about the items at Cufflinks.com is the fact that they have a variety of Disney movies and characters represented. It’s not just Mickey Mouse! I was thrilled to find The Lion King, since Jason and I were visiting Disney World for our 10th anniversary and had a small photoshoot planned in Animal Kingdom.
Other fun photoshoot outfit ideas:
- Take pictures around Adventureland or Caribbean Beach resort with a Pirates of the Caribbean theme
- Do a photoshoot around Toy Story Land in Hollywood Studios
- Take family Christmas photos at the parks during the winter with formal Disney Christmas outfits
- Or do Halloween photos instead with a formal Nightmare Before Christmas look!
- Wear a formal Peter Pan inspired outfit for a fancy photoshoot at the Grand Floridian
- Go with classic Mickey and friends for a formal outfit that works anywhere
- Photos in Epcot’s Morocco pavilion with an Aladdin outfit
Formal Disney outfit ideas for a signature meal or cruise
If you’re doing a signature meal at Disney World, it’s not required to go full formal and wear a tie (unless you’re at Victoria and Albert’s), but they do have a dress code. And if you’re celebrating a special occasion, why not get dressed up? For our 10th anniversary dinner we ate at Citrico’s at the Grand Floridian, and I wore a red dress with Disney accessories. Jason was able to coordinate with me by wearing a red button down shirt and a black Mickey tie.
A classic Mickey look works anywhere, but if you really want to get coordinated with the place you’re visiting here are some ideas:
- A formal Pixar outfit for dinner at Animator’s Palate on Disney Cruise lines
- A Beauty and the Beast look for Be Our Guest in Magic Kingdom or Lumiere’s on the Disney Magic cruise
- Go classic Disney for the 1923 restaurant on the new Disney Wish
- Wear that Lion King tie for dinner at Tiffins in Animal Kingdom
Formal Disney outfit ideas for other events
Of course, there are plenty of other occasions when you can wear a formal Disney outfit! Anytime you might wear a tie or get dressed up, do it Disney style. Attending a wedding? One thing I love about the options at cufflinks.com is that the majority of their ties are really understated and they are all really classy, so it’s not obnoxiously Disney. You have a more subtle approach so you can show your passion even at formal occasions outside of the theme parks or cruise ships. Whether you’re attending a wedding or party in Disney or outside of it, you can create some fun outfits. Another great time wear these Disney ties and accessories is for Dapper Day!
Creating a formal Disney outfit for men:
Disney ties
The best way to get formal and still do it Disney style is with a Disney tie! Pair it with a button down shirt in a coordinating color and you’re basically good to go. Even if it’s not super formal, ties (and bow ties!) are fun to wear for any occasion that’s a step above t-shirt wear. I think they look great with a short sleeve or long sleeve button down, and no jacket necessary. If you want you can add on a tie clip for good measure.
Disney cufflinks
If you want to add another fun Disney element to a formal outfit that includes a long-sleeve button down shirt, Disney cufflinks are a subtle but fun way to do that. While it sometimes seems men don’t have as many options as women for accessorizing (I have lots of Disney necklaces, bracelets, and more!), cufflinks are really a lot of fun. While you could go classic with some Mickey head cufflinks, there are so many other character options as well – Winnie the Pooh, Donald Duck, Peter Pan, Pixar characters, etc. Some come in color and others are metal. I like the subtlety of some of these, especially ones like the “original Mickey Mouse,” the Incredibles logo, and even the Cave of Wonders from Aladdin.
A jacket with Disney pocket squares
Of course I’m a fan of going all out, so if you want to look full formal the best way to get fancy is by putting on a jacket that includes a pocket square! There are some really nice ones that coordinate with the available Disney ties and cufflinks and just really pull your look together.
Disney socks
Formal Disney socks for men? Yup, it’s a thing! I love some fun socks, but for a formal look I like something a bit more subtle. These socks are nice because you still get your Disney in your day, but they fit with the formal wear as well.
Where to buy Disney ties and more
Like anything in life, I’ve found that paying for something that’s good quality is worth it in the long run. The Disney ties and accessories at cufflinks.com are all top-notch in terms of quality and made from great materials. They look absolutely gorgeous in person. When we took our photos at Animal Kingdom (in Florida in August!) Jason didn’t want to take his tie off after the photoshoot because he liked it so much!
Another nice thing about the items for sale here is that they come packaged beautifully – the cufflinks have really lovely boxes and everything looks very professional. These items would make great gifts for the male Disney fans in your life who might be tough to shop for.
If you’re looking to try them out and want a discount, use the code DisneyDay15 to save 15% on any order. It’s a great way to save some money and still create the perfect formal Disney outfit!
Cufflinks.com is also adding new Disney items throughout the year (their fall collection just launched last week!), so get on their mailing list or check back for other fun new designs… or explore some of their other collections, which include Star Wars, Marvel, Star Trek, and Harry Potter.
Mystery box
I actually plan to write a separate blog post about this later in the month, but I also wanted to briefly mention that cufflinks.com offers a Disney mystery box as well. If you like surprises like me and need some new Disney formal stuff in your closet this is an amazing deal. For $50 you get a box that includes 6 items from their Disney collection with a value of over $200. I was blown away by everything in my mystery box, so keep an eye out for that review soon!
