A look at how I put together my classic Elsa Disneybound:
This is actually my third Elsa Disneybound I’ve shared on the blog (and the fourth one I’ve done, the other is yet to come!). I guess I’m drawn to her character for a few reasons. Her outfits are beautiful and the colors are usually distinct enough to create a disneybound that isn’t too difficult and is recognizable. Previously I’d shared my Elsa coronation Disneybound and Elsa Frozen 2 Disneybound, but with this one I did something a little bit different.
If you’re not familiar with what Disney Bounding is, you can read about it here. I typically try to keep my looks a bit more casual, but for Elsa’s most iconic outfit I went formal. I actually created this outfit a few years ago, originally when I performed in a local theater’s Broadway revue. I sang Elsa’s song “Monster” from the Broadway musical version of Frozen and wore this dress. I decided to put it on again and have a little fun in the snow!
How I put together my Elsa Disneybound:
Elsa’s dress
The most important component of this Disneybound is, of course, the dress. When I was first searching for my outfit for the performance I tried on a ton of different light blue dresses. I wanted to find something that captured Elsa’s look, wasn’t too expensive, and was comfortable. And bonus points if I felt like I could wear it again for another formal occasion! After trying on many different dresses I found this one on the clearance rack at Macy’s. It might be hard to tell from the pictures but it also has a slight sparkle/glitter to it. One thing I love about Disneybounding is that the outfit doesn’t need to be identical as long as it reminds you of the character.
Of course, given that this dress was on clearance at Macy’s two years ago you can’t buy this exact one now. However, I did some hunting on Amazon for you and found a few options that would work really well! I would encourage you to find the style that works best for you – if you prefer sleeves instead of sleeveless, if you want something form fitting or not, if you prefer short or long – you can still do the Elsa look at your comfort level.
- For a glittery blue gown with the slit
- If you prefer a shorter dress
- With a more flowy skirt
- For a ton of sparkle
- If you’d like a lighter blue color
- To switch it up a little with a one-shoulder look
- With long sleeves
- A slightly more casual look
Elsa’s cape
Let’s be honest, the cape is what really makes an Elsa look stand out from just a fancy blue dress! I got my cape on Amazon – the one I bought is here. Even though it has a hole for the head, I didn’t like the look of it in front so I ended up pinning it to the shoulders of the dress so it would only hang from the back. I went with white thinking I could potentially use it for other things (like my Elsa running costume!), but a light blue or silver would look great for Elsa as well. You can also find capes with a few different styles if you don’t want to do what I did – a cape is pretty attention grabbing, but you could always use a shawl or scarf to get a similar effect.
Accessories for Elsa Disneybound
Aside from the cape, Elsa doesn’t actually have a ton of accessories. For this outfit I added a pair of arm sleeves, because her dress/cape has some light looking sleeves. I didn’t wear them for the theater performance but I did for the snow photo shoot, because it was cold and a little extra arm warmth wouldn’t hurt!
I always encourage people to go with shoes they are comfortable in. We only get brief glimpses of Elsa’s shoes with this outfit, but it looks like heels in either a light blue or clear/silver depending on the lighting. When I wore this outfit for my performance I had silver heels. When I did the snow photoshoot just wore boots, because snow! The dress is so long anyway you might not see much o the shoes. Heels, boots, flats – wear what you’re comfortable in! For colors I recommend silver, blue, or white – extra points for something sparkly!
Elsa’s hair and makeup
I have long hair, so I actually rock the Elsa side braid look fairly often. I tried to add a little sparkle to my braid with some hair pins I happened to have. Mine were mostly pearls or gemstones, but there are tons of different one you can buy including snowflakes which would be perfect! I’ve linked to some below.
I am not a makeup expert by any means and mostly use very basic stuff with some fun lip and eye colors. If you’re wondering, my eyeshadow was a combination of different colors from two Disney palettes I have – one inspired by Ariel and one from Jasmine. I used a vibrant purple from Ariel and then a lighter shimmery purple on top blended together. My lipstick is Lipsense, and the color is strawberry shortcake with the opal gloss on top.
Tips for the perfect Elsa Disneybound
- Try to use what you have – a Disneybound doesn’t have to be a perfect replica, so if you have a blue dress that’s similar but not the exact shade you can still make it work!
- It’s all about the details – snowflakes are an easy way to give an outfit more of an “Elsa” vibe. You could add some snowflake jewelry.
- Take a look at different pictures of Elsa in this outfit from the movie – depending on the angle and the shot you can sometimes see other details. I created a little collage for myself while I was working on this outfit.
- If you’re looking to take some fun photos this collage can also help with pose ideas, because I can be awkward about that! Take plenty and don’t be afraid to try something – if it doesn’t work you don’t have to share it!

What do you think of my Elsa Disneybound? What outfit should I try next?
I had no idea you were a singer, too! That is awesome. I love your costume and how creative you were with making it. I bet it’s amazing to become a Disney character for a day. What a fun idea to make a collage to inspire the outfit and the poses, too. Very clever!
This is so pretty! I’m not the biggest Frozen fan, but I am loving this dress with the little cape. The snowflakes just really make the whole thing look so magical, and I’m sure it was a showstopper when you performed in it as well!
