I haven’t been able to attend Dapper Day at the Disney theme parks before, but with them being closed right now they recently hosted a “Dapper Day at Home!” So I used it as the perfect excuse to get dressed up and take some pictures with a Minnie Mouse Dapper Day outfit.
What is Dapper Day?
It’s an organization (not run by Disney) that hosts several “Dapper Days” at Disneyland, Disney World, and Disneyland Paris throughout the year. The idea is to “step out in style” that day and get dressed up in your very best. For many Disney fans this involves a retro 1950’s style look to match the way people dressed going to Disneyland when it first opened in 1955.
I’m hoping to attend a Dapper Day in person this coming November, since I’m scheduled to be at Disneyland that weekend! But in the meantime it was a lot of fun just getting dressed up at home. They encouraged people to take photos, share to social media, and use the hashtag #dapperdayathome (look it up on instagram for a ton of amazing looks!).
It was really nice to be able to have a reason to get dressed up lately – wear cute clothes, do my hair and makeup, and not wear pajamas or leggings all day! I decided to go with a Minnie Mouse Dapper Day outfit since I already had most of the pieces I needed from my Minnie Mouse Disneybound.
Here’s some details on how I created my Minnie Mouse Dapper Day look:
The basics
I already had the red and white polka dot skirt (mine is from LuLaRoe) but you can find a similar 50’s style swing skirt on Amazon. I paired it with a black top. I already had this one, also from Amazon, and chose it for this look since it had that off the shoulder sort of 50’s vibe. I wore a pair of simple black heels that I own (actually from Goodwill), though if I had a pair of yellow shoes those would have been perfect to complete the look!
The accessories
To give it more of that 1950’s feel I added some accessories. I put a crinoline under the skirt to give it more poof and that look peeking out the bottom. This is the exact one I used from Amazon. I paired it with black tights and added a large black belt that I had gotten from Target a few years ago. I also put on a Minnie Mouse heart necklace I happen to have.
Hair and Makeup
I am by no means an expert when it comes to doing hair and makeup, especially for a certain time period. But I just did my best to try and recreate something similar to photos I looked at. I am often in a constant fight with my hair, but it does do big curls well. So I just curled it all into big, tight curls, and then took a front piece from each side and pinned it back. This may forever be my retro 50’s hairstyle because I don’t know how to do much else!
For my makeup I knew the key would be a good red lipstick – I got mine from Besame Cosmetics. This one was actually from their Agent Carter line, but all of their stuff is a great resource for something like Dapper Day because they are a company who tries to recreate historical make-up looks, mainly from the 40’s and 50’s. In fact they currently have a “Mickey Mouse red” color (on sale!) which would be perfect for this outfit!
Have you ever participated in a Dapper Day? What do you think of my Minnie Mouse Dapper Day outfit?
Very nice. I love the ringlets!
Ummm excuse me: BABE ALERT!! You look like a freaking doll! I love this Minnie Mouse-inspired Dapper Day outfit. And I love that you put it together to enjoy while at home. I know things are tough right now, and I’m sure you’re missing the park extra – but it’s good that you found a way to celebrate in quarantine!
This whole outfit is so adorable, and your hair looks amazing! I love the idea of dapper days, even though I have never attended one either. What a fun excuse to get all dolled up for a day! Especially now, when everyone needs to let themselves have a little fun!
What a cute and fun outfit idea! That skirt is so cute on you! You are so gorgeous in this girl!
