Disney in your Day readers have been voting for their favorite Star Wars characters on both the blog and on instagram throughout the month of March and early April. Now it’s finally time to announce the ultimate winner of our tournament! Our final two were both strong contenders, and it was a close one.
We started with 32 different characters in 4 different categories. Once we got to our final 4 we learned which ones were the favorites in each category. I think these are all pretty good picks:
The Light Side: Obi-Wan Kenobi
The Dark Side: Darth Vader
Other Disney characters: Grogu
Out of these four, it was our champion from the light side and the “other” category that made it to the final round. Two powerful picks, and I honestly wasn’t sure which way the voting was going to go. I know that lots of people love Baby Yoda, but Obi-Wan Kenobi is a strong character and could be more of a favorite with older Star Wars fans who aren’t as into the newer stuff like The Mandalorian.
And not surprisingly, the voting was pretty close! Our ultimate winner took home 56% of the votes once everything was added up, which means our runner-up still got a solid 44%. Both are popular characters, but only one can be our champion.
So which of these two Star Wars characters was the favorite amongst Disney in your Day voters?
And the winner is….
I don’t think I would have guessed this as the ultimate winner when I started the tournament, but I’m not disappointed in the results. He’s an interesting character who I do enjoy watching, though I’ve been voting for Grogu the whole time (don’t worry Baby Yoda, you’re always #1 in my heart). We certainly know a lot more of Obi-Wan’s backstory and have just gotten to know him better as a person, at least so far. I guess that cuteness can only take you so far, Grogu.
But really, the top 4 made me pretty happy! I think Darth Vader could have won and that would have been good with me too, because he really is one of the greatest villains of all time. He’s just so iconic, almost moreso than Luke Skywalker or any of the good guys. R2-D2 would not have been my personal top pick for droids though. I know a lot of people love him and he’s fun, but I was always a C-3P0 girl growing up – whatever that says about me.
But the real question is – what do you think? Are you happy Obi-Wan Kenobi won, or do you wish it was someone else?
And hey – it’s never too early to start thinking about next year! Share your ideas for future tournament topics below!
