Instructions for how to make this Melted snowman cookie recipe:
This was a sad year for Muppets fans, as we saw the closure of Muppet Vision 3D and the surrounding area. That included PizzeRizzo, which served mediocre pizza but had some great themeing inspired by Rizzo the Rat.
Losing a Muppets-themed area seems a particular shame, because I feel like there is so much they could have done here during the holiday season. There are lots of great Muppets Christmas movies, but of course, The Muppet Christmas Carol is one of the best. People I know who aren’t Muppets fans even enjoy this one!
Alas, Disney never really took advantage of that. Muppets Courtyard didn’t get any Muppet Christmas Carol love, but it did at least get holiday decorations. It also had a few specialty food items available at PizzeRizzo.
The past few years, one of these specialty items was the Melted Snowman Cookie. It was an adorable sugar cookie with marshmallow. It did not appear anywhere else this season, but you never know when Disney might bring something like this back! Even if they don’t, the good news is that you can make your own version at home.
A few quick notes/tips for this melted snowman cookie recipe that I picked up:
- This looks like something that would be hard to do, but it’s actually easier than it looks! One advantage is that since the snowman is melting, it doesn’t have to look “good.” He’s supposed to be a bit of a mess!
- The official recipe from Disney calls for “chocolate top hats,” “chocolate twigs,” and “chocolate-covered cocoa nibs.” I did not have access to any of these things (where do you buy tiny chocolate top hats??) so I made my own substitutions.
- Disney’s recipe does have some notes about what you could use instead. For the hats, they recommended mini peanut butter cups. I personally used dark chocolate rolos, and I thought this was exactly the look I was going for.
- For the arms you could also use thin pretzel sticks, but I ended up just drawing them on with melted dark chocolate (the same way the eyes are done).
- Mini chocolate chips worked just fine for the buttons, rather than trying to track down cocoa nibs.
- Before baking, you can roll your sugar cookies in red and green sprinkles to make it extra Christmas-y.
