How I created the look for my Moana 2 disneybound:
Several years ago I did a Moana disneybound, and it’s still one of my favorites. I wanted to do Moana again, but this time decided to base it on her outfit from Moana 2!
Even if that film wasn’t one my favorites, I did appreciate how they switched up her outfit. It’s still quite similar to what she wears in the first film, but the colors are reversed. Maui even makes a joke about it during the movie, telling her he didn’t know they were doing outfit changes!

I put my Moana 2 disneybound to good use twice so far. I had a Moana-themed birthday party so I wore it for that. I also brought it during my recent trip to Aulani!

Basics of a Moana 2 disneybound
For a Moana 2 disneybound you probably want to keep the colors consistent, but you have a lot of flexibility for what else you might do! So a tan/neutral color on top, and reddish/orange bottom. You might also have a few pops of color – I’d consider blue or green to represent her necklace, and maybe a little gold or tan for the detailing on her top.
Top
For Moana’s main outfit in the second movie, she has a white-ish top (maybe off-white, beige, light tan – I think any of those colors work). It’s one strap with some red lining. I ended up going with an off-white top that had a square neckline (but two straps). It had some subtle floral patterns on it too. This one was very stretchy and comfortable, so I appreciated that!
Skirt
For the skirt, I went with a red boho-style ruffled skirt. I knew I wanted something with a pattern, even if it didn’t match the pattern on Moana’s skirt exactly. In the sequel her skirt is much more of a deep red than the first one, where it was an orange-y red. But any color similar to it will get the point across! You can also get creative with the length. I think the most important part is the color and the vibe.
Moana’s necklace
Moana might be an island girl, but that doesn’t mean she can’t accessorize! Her most obvious accessory is her necklace. The heart of Te Fiti was inside of it in the first movie, but now she wears the necklace with a small shell from her sister.
I actually had several different versions of the necklace! The first time I wore my Moana 2 disneybound, I made a necklace myself. I used a set of natural wooden beads for the main necklace chain, and I added a turquoise stone in the middle.
At the party, my husband gave me a gift, which was a toy version of a Moana necklace. It is made for kids, so it fit – but barely! It was fun, and even lit up. But it turns out that wasn’t my real gift! He had ordered a special necklace for me but it didn’t come in time for my birthday, so he got a silly one instead. I learned a week later he had gotten me a jade necklace.
It came with a certificate of authenticity. It’s a beautiful green color with a swirl pattern on it reminiscent of Moana’s necklace. I can’t find anything quite like it online to share with you, but I did find this option. It’s close, although it has an open swirl instead of a solid pendant.
If you don’t want to spend a lot on a jade necklace (and you want an option other than a toy or making one yourself!), I found a few other alternatives. This pretty Hawaiian sea glass necklace hits the right colors, while this one incorporates the Moana symbol. You could also go for more of a costume jewelry piece.
Other accessories
Shirt, skirt, and necklace aside – you can add a few other accessories to really step up your disneybound! Moana has some ankle bracelets, so you could add something like that. She’s barefoot most of the time, but for shoes I chose a simple pair of neutral colored flip flops. (They were very comfy, too!).
Although Moana doesn’t really wear a flower in her hair in the second movie, I decided to add one anyway. I think it helps to make the outfit feel a little more tropical! I had a simple hair flower clip. I did also accent my outfit at times with a pair of Moana ears! These were a birthday gift from a friend, so I wore them at the party and at times throughout the day while at Aulani.
Tips for a Moana 2 disneybound
- Try to use what you have – a Disneybound doesn’t have to be a perfect replica, so if you have any skirt or shorts that’s red/orange, a neutral colored top, and any tropical touches, that would work well!
- I think adding a few things to give the “island vibe” really helps, like a flower in the hair.
- If you’re going to choose one accessory, it should probably be the necklace – it is important to her outfit and the story, and adds a good pop of color!
- Feel free to get creative. Maybe there’s a way you can give a nod to Hei Hei and/or Pua in your outfit, too!
