Disney in your Day readers have been voting on the best villain sidekicks on both the blog and on instagram throughout the month of March and early April. Now it’s finally time to announce the ultimate winner of our tournament! Our final two were both strong contenders, and it was actually a bit closer than I expected.
We started with 32 different characters in 4 different categories. Once we got to our final 4 we learned which ones were the favorites in each category. I think these are all pretty good picks:
Human sidekicks: Kronk
Group sidekicks: The Hyenas
Animal sidekicks: Iago
Other sidekicks: Magic Mirror
One thing I noticed throughout the tournament – the 90s villain sidekicks seemed to get a lot of attention. That doesn’t surprise me, because I feel like characters overall were just more developed than in the films of the 40s, 50s, and 60s.
And ultimately that led us to Kronk vs. Iago. Two good contenders, though I had an inkling of who would win this from the beginning.
And the character who I suspected would take it all did end up with over 2/3 of the votes (68%), but the second place sidekick put up a decent fight with 32% of the votes. So it still wasn’t a complete runaway, which I think it could have been.
So which of these two villain sidekicks was the top choice of Disney in your Day readers?
And the winner is…
Kronk!
I almost left him out of the bracket because I had a feeling he would dominate. But it didn’t seem right for him not to be here. Sure enough, Kronk is a favorite of many.
I personally was voting for who I think was the best villain sidekick, not just the character I liked the most. Because there’s no doubt that Kronk is one of the most lovable and good “villains” in Disney films!
I’m honestly not sure who I would have voted for to take it all. I do think Iago is a strong choice and has so many traits that make him a great villain sidekick. I also love the hyenas. A few others I would consider as frontrunners would be LeFou, Lucifer, and Fidget.
But the real question is – what do you think? Are you happy Kronk won, or do you wish it was someone else?
