Yachtsman Steakhouse, at Disney’s Yacht Club resort, definitely feels like one of those “special occasion” type places. This past January was my second time eating there, and I had decided a Yachtsman Steakhouse dinner would be the perfect way to celebrate completing the Dopey Challenge!
Maybe it was the post-race exhaustion, but I actually forgot my camera here. I bring it everywhere with me! So I’ve got phone photos for this post. Jason and I met up with my two best friends who had come down that weekend to support me. The interior is nice and goes along with the themeing of the rest of the resort.
The meal starts out with a bread basket – in some restaurants this isn’t even worth mentioning, but the rolls here deserve some love! You receive onion pull apart rolls and some regular rolls. I’m not even a big fan of onion but those rolls are delicious. They come with salted butter and roasted garlic. The garlic is awesome, and this is a great way to start out the meal.
We also got drinks. Two of us ordered off the wine menu. I had a pinot noir which was very good. One of my friends had a cocktail off of the standard Disney drink menu, and Jason stuck with water.
For my meal I had the 8-oz Black Angus Filet Mignon (Cognac-Truffle Butter and served with one (1) Accompaniment Selection):
This was so good. The beef is great quality and the meat very tender, and cognac-truffle butter adds wonderful flavor, and it was cooked perfectly. I’m sharing the photo of cutting into the steak because you can see how well they prepared it when I asked for it to be medium rare. For my side I had the mashed potatoes, which were pretty standard.
Jason’s dinner of choice was the 16 oz. Rib Eye Steak (Blue Heaven Shallot Butter and served with one (1) Accompaniment Selection):
This was another excellent steak, and plenty of it. The shallot butter was a great addition. For his side Jason got the vegetables of the day (I believe it was broccoli). With all of the other great food on the table these didn’t really get touched!
My friend had the 7-oz Cervena Elk (Parsnip Purée, Blueberry Gastrique, Royal Trumpet Mushrooms, Pumpernickel Soil):
This was so unique, and even better than I thought it would be! She let me try it and I was impressed by how much I liked it (I didn’t know what I would think of elk!). The blueberry gastrique was vibrant and full of flavor, and such an interesting pairing with the elk. Honestly, as much as I loved my filet I think if I returned here and this was still on the menu I’d be ordering this one.
Jason also got a side of Bone Marrow (Seasonal Jam, Toasted Green Onion Brioche):
He had the bone marrow the previous time we’d dined here and been so impressed he couldn’t resist ordering it again. It’s definitely something we don’t normally have so it’s kind of like a special treat to have it here at a steak house. I’m still not 100% on the bone marrow train, but he really enjoys it.
And of course when we saw Truffle Macaroni & Cheese on the menu we had to get a side of that sort the table:
Not surprisingly, this was delicious! It was so rich and decadent. Even though it didn’t look like that much, even with 4 of us we couldn’t finish it given all the other food on the table. I could easily just get this and an appetizer and be happy though.
Even though I didn’t have much room for dessert I felt like I was celebrating and wanted something sweet to end the meal – so I went with the S’mores Sundae (Salted Caramel, Chocolate, and Peanut Butter Gelatos, Graham Cracker Crumbs, Chocolate Chunks, Toasted Marshmallow):
This is basically just a fancy ice cream sundae, but it was delicious. I love the flavor combo of s’mores, but this added even more with salted caramel and peanut butter gelato as well. Basically every flavor I love all in one bowl of ice cream. I did share this, which was a good option.
Overall a Yachtsman Steakhouse dinner is definitely pricey, but it’s worth the splurge for the quality of food that you get. It’s the perfect special occasion meal or just a good place if you want to treat yourself on vacation. I am sure we will be back for another splurge at some point in the future!
