While reading another blog, LisaLDN.com (a great travel blog amongst other things, including lots of Disney related stuff), I came across a fascinating post. In this post, Lisa attempted to answer the following question:
If Disney World was on fire, which 5 attractions would you save?
It sounds like something almost impossible to answer, but I’ve decided to give my best try to answering this question anyway. There are way more than 5 I’d like to save, but if I have to choose these are the ones I would want around the most:
1. Kilimanjaro Safaris
Aside from the fact that I’d be saving the lives of animals and all that, Kilimanjaro Safari is one of my favorite Disney World attractions. One of the things that I love about it is how it is different every time because of the animals. Plus, the opportunity to get to see giraffes and elephants and the like up close is just so unique. I love taking photos and this Disney attraction is a great opportunity to do that.
2. Splash Mountain
I usually give this as my answer when asked for my favorite ride at Disney World. It feels very well balanced to me – it’s thrilling but not heart-poundingly so. It has a fun story with great music, and it gets you wet but not (usually) soaked. To me it shows what Disney does best: take a typical attraction like a log flume, and turn it into a one of a kind experience.
3. Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor
For many people this would probably be the biggest “surprise” on this list of Disney World attractions. I know it’s not a super popular one, but it’s definitely one of our favorites. I feel like it has a good amount of repeatability thanks to the nature of the show. My husband and I just find it hilarious and we usually go at least twice on every trip.
4. Soarin’
This was a really tough call between Soarin’ and Test Track. They are both great rides, but I feel like Soarin’ is the more unique experience. It is just exhilarating to feel like you’re flying over California. Now that they’ve announced they are going to update the film to Soarin’ around the World I think it will be even better!
5. Expedition Everest
I’m a big fan of roller coasters, and I really do think this one is probably my favorite roller coaster I’ve ever been on. It has a good level of excitement and thrills, but it’s not so scary that I get nervous when I ride on it. Plus, I think the themeing is really cool both on the ride and in the queue.
Phew, that was really hard! And I know there are probably some others I missed that I might regret not picking when I look back. If you absolutely had to pick a top 5 of Disney attractions, which ones would you choose?
If I had to pick, I’d have a lot of the same! Definitely Splash, Kilimanjaro Safaris, Everest, and Soarin’, but my 5th would be Big Thunder Mountain! I love it because it’s fun and exciting, but even more importantly, it’s my favorite place to view fireworks from! The last two trips to Disney World we’ve managed to time our Big Thunder ride perfectly with the fireworks and it’s BEAUTIFUL!
I love riding Big Thunder at night, but have never been able to time it with the fireworks. That sounds really cool!
YES to # 1,2&5! I’ve never done 3 or 4, but the other 3 are some of my FAVOURITES. I’m also a huge fan of the kali river rapids!
Actually, Animal Kingdom is just my favourite park. I could seriously spend days there.
I love everything about Expedition Everest from the line up to the ride itself. I had fun trying to toss pennies into the luck jars, ringing the bells, exploring the yeti museum, and of course SCREAMING MY HEAD OFF! Such a great ride.

So glad to hear from another Animal Kingdom fan! I adore that park. I love Everest and when I went by myself I went in the single rider line and did it a bunch of times in a row 🙂
I love Splash Mountain! The Disneyland version doesn’t have side-by-side seats, so when my fiance and I finally visit that will be a fun change! I love Song of the South, so it’s one of my favorite rides.
I’ve heard that Splash Mountain is one of the few rides that is actually better at Disney World rather than the other way around 🙂
That’s it. I’m going to Disney next vacation!
Good idea! 😉
Awesome, I’m so glad you did this! I definitely agree with all, but Everest is a bit too thrilling for me I’m afraid 😛
Will link to this from my Facebook page tomorrow! 😀
Haha I love the thrills! Thanks for the inspiration, it was fun to write about!
I’d save the Haunted Mansion hands-down!
It was definitely a contender for me, but I don’t love it the way that some people do.
I ‘ve never been to Disneyworld, Disneyland a bazillion times. I hope to make it there soon! Splash mountain is always my first choice ride! It looks different from the one in Ca. What fun post, love it!

I’m going to Disneyland for the first time soon, but I heard that Splash is one of the few rides that is actually better in Florida than in CA!
I love disney. I can’t wait to ride one of these rides next time we go!
When we went to Disney two years ago our kids were young so we did mostly kiddie shows and attractions like the It’s a small world ride, Toy Story and Indiana Jones. We’re going again next year and I’m pinning this list to remember to check these attractions out. Thanks for sharing this!
You’re welcome! I’m sure you’ll have a ton of fun exploring some of the “bigger” rides this time around!
I agree with you about Kilimanjaro Safaris. I love looking at exotic animals, but when you go to a zoo and see the animals are confined to a small space, you feel bad for them. In Animal Kingdom, it seems like the animals have a pretty good set-up!
Yes, they look so natural at Animal Kingdom, it’s just so different to see them there as opposed to in a zoo!
