Star Wars library book display

Star Wars library book display - Disney in your Day

I don’t mention it on the blog often because it’s not often relevant to Disney, but I do have a “day job.”  I’m a children’s librarian and I absolutely love it.  One of my favorite things to do is to create book displays.  With the Star Wars movie coming out and those books flying off the shelves of our library, we decided for the month of December to put up a book display on Star Wars!

I had a ton of fun creating this one.  I made a couple of cool props, including a BB-8 droid that I painted myself and built out of random pieces I found around the library.  I also created two lightsabers out of cardboard and paper towel rolls.

One of the main parts of the display was photos of the main characters of the movies.  They have quote bubbles coming out of their mouths and I wanted to put Star Wars quotes in them.  My brother and my husband helped me come up with a bunch of Star Wars quotes that we changed to be about books!  There are so many good ones.  They are a little hard to read on the photo, so here they are:

  • “The plot is strong with this one.”
  • “May the books be with you.”
  • “Judge a book not by its size.”
  • “I find your lack of books disturbing.”
  • “Do not underestimate the power of a good book.”
  • “These are the books you’re looking for.”
  • “The possibility of not having fun reading is 3,720 to 1!”
  • “Help me find these books, librarian, you’re my only hope.”

For the finishing touches I hit up the Target dollar bin and found a couple of cardboard signs and a little storm trooper figure.  And then we added in all of the Star Wars books, of course!

Like this display?  Take a look at the Frozen library book display I created last winter!

Are you excited for the new Star Wars movie?  Are your kids?  What do you think of my Star Wars library book display?

Some of the kids (and parents!) are really into it at the library! I’m just a casual fan myself.

Confession: I have never seen a Star Wars film. However, I do still find this display adorable!!

Also, I am going to email you today. I didn’t know you were a librarian! I was wondering if perhaps I could hear more on your experience within this career? 🙂
