And with that, the first round of the Disney sidekicks tournament is over!
There were some tough choices, and the first round is the easiest one. I’m not overly surprised by any of the winners – really what this first round did is just get rid of some of the “extra” or lesser known sidekicks. That being said, there are some great ones who didn’t make the cut. If you haven’t watched The Rescuers in awhile go back and re-watch for an appreciation of Orville (and the Rescuers Down Under with his brother Wilbur!).
Personally, I was a little sad to see Zazu eliminated this round! I know he was up against a classic with Jiminy Cricket, but I never liked Pinocchio that much (and if you actually go back and watch the film instead of how you think of Jiminy as presented in Disney’s current advertising, he’s a bit of a creeper with the ladies!). And I was very sad to see Ray from Princess and the Frog eliminated in round 1! But that’s the way this sort of thing goes.
And this time around there are some matchups that I’m not sure how I’ll vote. Timon vs. Mushu is certainly an interesting match up. And Lumiere vs. Sebastian are two great characters from the Disney renaissance. I can’t wait to see how everyone votes!
