March tournament – Disney sidekicks, final round

It’s the final round, and only 2 Disney sidekicks remain!

I will say I think this tournament went more how I was expecting it to go than tournaments in past year. There were fewer surprises. Though I’m not sure I would have guessed this match up as the final two! I thought perhaps Olaf would be around a bit longer with the popularity of Frozen and how much people seem to like him. Or maybe one of the great characters from Beauty and the Beast (good job Lumiere for making it this far at least!).

I kind of expected the Genie to be here, although I personally am still on the fence about whether or not I would even consider him a “sidekick.” I did end up adding him because it seemed most websites had him on their lists. And while Aladdin is of course, the main character in that movie, the genie has such an amazing, larger than life presence. We know he really steals the show a bit here.

And he is up against Mushu, which was a bit of a surprise to me! But I’m glad to see Mushu make it this far and get this sort of recognition. I feel like Mulan is a somewhat underrated movie, and Mushu is a fun character. He’s not the dragon you expect by any means, but he’s funny, supportive, and has a lot of heart. Perhaps the lack of Mushu in the more recent live action version of Mulan had people really missing him and showing how much they enjoy his presence in this tournament!

So the people have spoken and we are down to the Genie from Aladdin vs. Mushu from Mulan. Who will get the title of the ultimate Disney sidekick? Vote now!
