It’s margarita time again!! Trying a new margarita recipe every week or so has been one of the things that I’ve looked forward to lately. I just have a tab open on my phone of the La Cava del Tequila menu and have been picking a new one to try every week! This time I decided to go with a Maelstrom margarita recipe.
La Cava del Tequila has been going live on their instagram with walk-throughs of how to make many of their cocktails using ingredients you might have at home. They aren’t exactly the same as the ones in the parks, but I’ve played around with the recipes they provided and the descriptions on La Cava’s menu to try and replicate them as closely as possible!
The Maelstrom margarita was introduced to Epcot a few years ago, after Maelstrom (the ride) closed in the Norway pavilion. (Maelstrom was replaced by Frozen Ever After). It was supposed to just be for a limited time in 2014, but the margarita proved to be so popular that it’s hung around ever since.
It’s definitely a bit of a unique combination of flavors, with some sweet and some spicy going on, but I like the contrast. I found it a little more spicy than I prefer, so I actually added a little splash of pineapple juice to cut it and add more sweetness.
Ingredients:
- 1.5 oz. tequila
- 2 oz. mango puree
- .5oz of orange liqueur (like Grand Marnier)
- 1 small slice of habanero
- A handful of blueberries
- Basil leaf
- Tajin (for the rim)
Directions: Puree the mango in a blender (you can use fresh or frozen). Add the mango, tequila, orange liqueur, and a slice of habanero to a shaker with ice. Prepare glass with tajin rim by wetting the rim of the glass with water or lime juice and dipping into a plate of tajin. Strain margarita into the glass. Add blueberries and garish with basil leaf and enjoy!

Ooo that sounds good! I like some spice in my drinks 😉
I might need to get that next time I’m at La Cava del Tequila
It’s kinda fun that even after the ride was replaced, the drink still stuck around. It MUST be great, if that’s the case! And it does sound delicious. I hope I get to give this one a go at some point soon!
I love it. It’s a go to of mine every trip to Epcot which is way to many times a year. #FloridaLifeProblems
