Disney mug of the month: Winnie the Pooh

February 11, 2023 by Becky 2 Comments

It’s another month, and I have another Disney mug to share with you! I’m pretty excited to share this one with you because this post features a lot of things I love, almost all of which were gifts from family and friends who are very close to me. Today I’m featuring none other than Winnie the Pooh.

Pooh Bear had always been one of my favorite characters when I was a kid. If you talk to my mom, she’ll give you the infamous story about how she had to ask the person working at Mr. Video if she could buy the VHS tape of Winnie the Pooh because I never wanted to return it (also, that’s how old I am, kids). I’ve always loved Pooh but other characters also became favorites to me through the years.

My love for Winnie the Pooh has returned full force in the past couple of years, thanks in large part to a story called “Party in the Woods.” I have had trouble falling asleep sometimes, especially over the past two years due to anxiety. It might sound silly, but a good bedtime story always seems to help. Jason had been doing a great job of making up stories, but eventually, we learned we could ask Alexa to tell us a bedtime story – and she suggested a Disney story.

She has a whole collection of stories she can read to you (some are free, but you can pay to have access to the whole collection – don’t judge me). Some are short retellings of the films, and some of them are readings of books written with the characters. And I’ll be honest, some of them are ridiculous. Jason and I would sometimes end up laughing instead of sleeping.

And one of my favorites was Party in the Wood – Eeyore, of course, loses his tail, and they have to find a replacement for him. They try a bunch of different things, but the one that cracks me up the most is when they try to use the Pooh-Coo-Clock as his tail. So it’s now one of my favorite bedtime stories.

And since my love for Winnie the Pooh is so strong, of course I was extra excited when a really close friend of mine gifted me a Winnie the Pooh mug! Plus, it wasn’t my birthday or Christmas or anything – so a surprise Disney mug gift “just because” is a pretty awesome thing.

I love the artistic style of this mug. It has that sort of “old school” classic look. It features all our favorite characters marching through the 100 Acre Wood. And the 100 Acre Wood makes a really pretty background.

One thing that I really love about how this mug was designed is that you actually get the same image no matter which side you hold the handle – and it’s not obvious that it repeats (just take a look at the picture below and the ones I posted above – they look the same but the handle is switched so the front and the back are identical). Most mugs are designed with the main image to be shown when you’re holding the mug in your right hand. But I actually typically use my left hand to drink from mugs, so I thought this was really cool.

What’s in my mug: When talking about Winnie the Pooh, it seemed only appropriate to be drinking tea with honey, of course! I have a few different teas that I’ve been enjoying, but lately I’m finishing up one of the Twinings tea I got in Epcot at the UK pavilion. It’s the Berry Blush Infusion, and I love it because it’s a black tea (so I still get the caffeine I sometimes need) but it has a very strong berry flavor. I could be wrong, but I think this might be one of the teas which is exclusive to Epcot (or if it’s not, then it’s impossible to find online these days). I might have to stock up next time I’m back there!

What I’m currently reading: Winnie the Pooh: Party in the Wood, of course! Jason actually managed to track down a copy of the book itself. He had to get it used, as the book was published in 2011 and isn’t in print anymore. And it comes with stickers! Only two stickers were missing, which I’d say is pretty good for a used book.

What mug are you using right now? Have you tried the Twinings tea from Epcot?

I love this mug! As Becky’s mom, I also could tell you the story of how when she was a little girl, she was frightened of the sound of the wind in the Hundred Acre Wood in the Winnie the Pooh computer game she played on our Apple 2 computer
