I really love the movie Soul for many reasons, but it definitely helps that there is a cat involved! Some of the merch that has come out involves this cat, often in it’s “soul form” – a rainbow sort of blob on its way to the Great Beyond. But don’t worry, the cat is actually fine! I turns out that just like cats have 9 lives, they also have 9 souls.
And I’m excited to say that a mug is now my first piece of Soul merchandise. It came as a surprise gift from my good friend Kristin for Galentine’s Day! Obviously she knows me quite well and managed to hit many of the things I enjoy with this gift – mugs, Disney, Soul, and cats. Pretty much perfect.
And of course this mug is super cute. I really love the color of it. It’s kind of reflective and captures that rainbow sort of shimmery vibe well. Someone asked me if it’s a difficult mug to drink out of given the shape and the ears. And it was maybe a little trickier than a “regular” mug but it wasn’t too bad! You just have to be careful so you don’t spill. The handle of this mug is actually on the left side so of course that means you’re supposed to sip it from the back. That way the ears don’t get in the way!
What in my mug: Kristin is awesome because no only did she get me the Soul mug, she also got me some coffee to go in it from my favorite coffee place, Expedition Roasters. She sent me the Voodoo Brew, which is not only delicious with a slight cognac flavor, it’s also inspired by another Disney movie that both Kristin and I adore – The Princess and the Frog. The Voodoo Brew is based on the villain Dr. Facilier and the artwork on it is great too.
What I’m currently reading: I’ve had this book into my “to be read” pile for awhile and finally decided to dig in. It’s called “One Little Spark” by Marty Sklar, who was a Disney legend and Imagineer. The book details “Mickey’s Ten Commandments,” which was a series of guidelines he developed to try and run the Disney parks. The second half of the books deals with other imagineers and their experiences and perspectives. I’ve just started it but it seems promising, and I’m hoping it gives some interesting behind the scenes info and inspiration! Plus the title about one little spark seemed especially appropriate to read while drinking out of my new Soul mug.
What mug are you using right now? And what are you currently reading?
I spent the ENTIRE MOVIE worried about the fate of that cat and frankly I am STILL angry that they just STOLE one of his lives >D
I guess it would be a challenge to drink out of the mug if you’re left-handed though.
???
I love Marty Sklar, so that book sounds super interesting! Plus, I love that the title references one of my favorite Disney characters, Figment. The mug is adorable, but as a lefty, I think the ears might cause me more trouble.
That’s a cute mug! And thank you for the book recommendation. I’m always looking for new ideas!
I haven’t seen this movie, but the mug sure is cute!
