Who’s ready for more margaritas? Last week I shared the recipe for the avocado margarita from La Cava Del Tequila, and this week I have the Black Magic margarita recipe. This one is pretty cool because the recipe was actually invented with input from Neil Patrick Harris, a big Disney fan and frequent visitor to Epcot.
If you prefer a sweet margarita with a hint of tartness, this might be the one for you. The description on the menu is “Mezcal, blackberry puree, cassis liqueur, lime and mint”. It’s also fairly new, just hitting Epcot last December.
La Cava del Tequila has been going live on their instagram with walk-throughs of how to make many of their cocktails using ingredients you might have at home. In fact for this margarita they even had Neil Patrick Harris on as a special guest! While I don’t have the items to make all of the cocktails they share I was able to get almost everything for this one with just a few small substitutions!
In particular I didn’t have the cassis liqueur, which I’m sure would make it even tastier. Instead I added more blackberries to bring out that blackberry flavor and some triple sec to give it a little bit of a kick. I thought my version was really delicious, so even if you don’t have the cassis I encourage you to play around with what you have and whip up your own delicious Black Magic margarita recipe!
Ingredients:
- 1.5 oz. mezcal
- .5 oz cassis blackberry liqueur
- 1 oz lime juice
- 1 oz agave
- 10-12 blueberries
- 4 blackberries
- several mint leaves
Directions: Mix all ingredients together and add to blender. Blend with ice to create desired level of frozen margarita. Garnish with mint leaves and blackberries and enjoy!

I’m not much for blueberries – think you could skip ’em?
