Woody’s Lunchbox

Woody's Lunchbox - Disney in your Day

Have you tried the newest eatery in Hollywood Studios – Woody’s Lunchbox? Part of the new Toy Story Land, it’s a quick service restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. On my past two trips to Disney I was able to enjoy both breakfast and lunch here.

The downside to this area is that it doesn’t have a lot of seating.  I’m sure once Toy Story Land isn’t brand new there won’t be as much demand, but it’s still a very small area for a food place.  Think along the lines of outside where Starring Rolls used to be, rather than a big space like Backlot Express.  They should have planned for more seating! It’s that very stressful atmosphere of having to stalk a table and then swoop down the moment it frees up. Honestly, the lack of seating is probably the top reason why I would choose to eat somewhere else in Hollywood Studios. I don’t need that stress!

Tip: Use mobile order. Not only do you not have to wait for your food as long, you can try to grab a table while you’re waiting for your order to be ready.

On the plus side, the food is tasty and the atmosphere is fun, so let’s get on to that!

Atmosphere

Like pretty much everything in Toy Story Land, the atmosphere and decor at Woody’s Lunchbox is adorable.  The main building is a lunch box (of course!) and it’s propped up with a thermos.  White the seating is unfortunately lacking, the tables and chairs that are there are super cute. Babybel cheese features prominently as some of the seats.  The rest of the tables and chairs and brightly colored and have umbrellas, one of the rare chances for shade in Toy Story Land.  At Christmas time it was also decorated with some popcorn garland!

Breakfast

I was excited to try the S’mores French toast sandwich (Marshmallow and Chocolate Ganache stuffed in Grilled Custard soaked Brioche encrusted with Graham Cracker Crumbs) I have to say it did not disappoint!

It didn’t necessarily taste like french toast (more like perhaps a s’mores sandwich?), but all the flavors were delicious and there was a good ratio of marshmallow to chocolate.

My friend had the Banana Split Yogurt Parfait (Pineapple, Strawberries and Banana between layers of Vanilla Yogurt and Honey topped with Granola and Dark Chocolate Chips):

She also tried to Mystic Portal Punch (POWERade® Mountain Berry Blast with flavors of Lemon-Lime and Tangerine):

I thought this was kind of blah. It tasted a bit watery to me.

Lunch/Dinner

For lunch I went with the BBQ Brisket Melt (Sliced Smoked Brisket, Pickles and tangy BBQ Sauce between melted Cheddar and Monterey Jack Cheeses on Grilled Sourdough):

This was basically the grilled cheese with brisket and BBQ sauce added.  The cheese was great and I liked the BBQ sauce, but the brisket was pretty fatty. Next time I’d just go for the regular grilled cheese here.  You can get it with a side of tater tots, macaroni salad, or tomato basil soup. I went for the soup and I’m so glad I did because it was actually totally delicious! Amazing flavor.  I think the grilled cheese and tomato soup would be an awesome meal here.

One member of our party did get the Grilled Three Cheese Sandwich (Melted Provolone and Cheddar Cheeses with a Cheddar Cream Cheese Spread on Garlic Buttered Grilled Artisan French Bread):

It’s basic but it’s good. They use really good bread which I think helps a lot.  I had gone with the similar brisket melt because I wanted more protein, but next time I’d just do the grilled cheese.

And finally we got the Totchos (Potato Barrels coated with Beef and Bean Chili, Shredded Cheese and signature Queso with Tomatoes and Corn Chips finished with Sour Cream and a sprinkle of Green Onions)!

Yes, this is basically nachos made with tater tots… so really, how can you go wrong?

I also got a dessert with the Holiday Cinnamon Cran-Apple Lunch Box Tart (Cran-Apple stuffed Cinnamon Pastry coated in a Vanilla Fondant and Holiday decorations):

This one was only around for the holiday season, but they seem to have a few different ones throughout the year, including a chocolate hazelnut and a raspberry.  They have these available at both breakfast and lunch/dinner.  It was quite tasty – much better quality than your typical pop tart.  I mostly tasted flavors of apple pie and not much cranberry.  I would love to get the chocolate hazelnut (topped with candied bacon!) sometime!

Overall

So overall I’ve enjoyed the food I’ve had at Woody’s Lunchbox, even though the menu is on the small side. Out of Hollywood Studios I think it’s one of the better quick service options, though the lack of tables is super frustrating, so I might choose something where I know I can get a seat such as ABC Commisary or Backlot Express.  But the tomato soup was so good, I’d love to enjoy that again with the grilled cheese! I have a feeling I’ll be back at Woody’s Lunchbox, as long as it doesn’t look too crowded.
