Since I participated in a race this past week as part of my training, I decided to do a little recap of that in addition to my weekly update! So last Sunday I had the opportunity to run the Wines and Vines 5k at the Penns Woods Winery. It started at 9am. The weather was overcast, but it was hot and especially humid. The weather made it difficult to run!
In addition, this is by far the most challenging course I have ever run, even though it is only a 5k. All of it is on either grass or dirt, which just sucks your energy out through your feet! At least that’s how it feels. And there is an out and back dirt section that is very, very narrow – it probably only fits about 3 people across, and there are people coming in both directions so you’re more or less single file, which definitely slows you down. And there were tree roots (at least they were painted orange so you could see them) and mud due to rain the night before.
But on the positive side, the winery is a very scenic place to run! And I like the fact that it doesn’t feel super competitive – there are a number of people that walk the whole thing. Plus, you get a wine glass and a ticket for a glass of wine when you’re done! I had the sangria and it was so good. There are also food trucks and musicians playing.
The race went pretty well for me, given the challenging course. My official time was completing the 5k in 36 minutes exactly, which was pretty good given how my training has been going this week. I counted this as my first 30 minute run for the week.
I am finally starting to feel a little better about how my runs are going this week.
On Tuesday I did another 30 minute run and that was fine, nothing out of the ordinary.
Today I did my five mile run, which I was a little nervous about since 4 miles had been rough last week. I am happy to say that the five miles felt much better today and I kept a pace under 12 min/mile! Finally starting to feel like myself again!
