Take a look inside a Wilderness Lodge 1-bedroom villa at Copper Creek:
I’ve stayed at almost every Disney resort at this point, but Wilderness Lodge was one of the few I hadn’t checked off the list yet. That all changed this past February, when we stayed during Princess race weekend!
I used my DVC points to rent a 1-bedroom villa in the Copper Creek area, where I’d be staying with 2 friends. I’d arrived a day early and stayed solo at Coronado Springs for a night before heading over to Wilderness Lodge.
I spent the first part of the day in Epcot, figuring I’d check in once my room was ready. Around 3pm I still hadn’t gotten that text, but I wanted to change and relax a little so I grabbed a bus to Wilderness Lodge anyway. I got the text that the room was ready as I was on the bus, so that worked out!
We had room 5109, which was on the 5th floor of the main building in the Copper Creek wing. The DVC 1-bedroom villas are huge and beautiful, and I’m excited to take you on a little tour of this Wilderness Lodge 1-bedroom villa room!
The room basics
You have a lot of space with these 1-bedroom villas, which is really nice if you have a family (or a group of friends). They typically sleep 4-5 people, and at Copper Creek it was 4. You have a king bed and a pull-out couch.
I will say that’s probably the one thing that I wish was different about the 1-bedrooms. I realize the appeal of a king bed, but I’d much rather have 2 queen beds plus the couch to potentially sleep 6-7. There is a lot of space and I think you could comfortably have more than 4 people there if you had beds for them. You can do a 2-bedroom villa, of course, but those sleep 8-9 so there’s no in-between option. Just feels like there are a lot of families these days where you’re looking at about 5 or 6 people staying together.
But anyhow! When you first enter the room you basically enter into the kitchen, which is a full kitchen. If you continue on from there you’ll hit the living room with a small dining area. To the left of where you entered you’ll find a closet across from a washer/dryer. Continue on to find the bathroom(s), and then the master bedroom.
There is a large balcony that spans the master bedroom and the living room. Out on the balcony there are some chairs and a small table. Our view was really nice – it looked out onto the resort in the back area, so you could see the pool and the other side of the main building. From the right angle you could also see a bit of Bay Lake.
The kitchen
You’ll find a full kitchen here in the 1-bedroom villa, which means you have a full-sized fridge, stove, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, pots and pans, etc.
The goal of DVC is to make it feel like home, and this is certainly true with the kitchen amenities. You get a full set of real plates, bowls, and silverware, plus things like mugs and glasses. Most kitchen basics you’d need are there, so if you wanted to do a lot of cooking in your room you definitely could. There’s also plenty of cabinets and storage space.
Some of the standard hotel rooms have switched to a keurig machine for coffee, but you still have a traditional coffee maker here. Side note – if you need extra coffee, pillows, or anything like that, you can order them from Hey Disney!
Living room
Once you’re past the kitchen area, you’ll find a dining table directly to your left. This had a long bench and 3 chairs, so you could potentially sit 6 people there.
The main section of the living room was the couch (which pulled out into a bed) and the television. I’m a little surprised that the television is on an actual set of drawers – most DVC (and some standard rooms) have transitioned this to be a 5th pull-down bed to accommodate another guest. In this case, it really was drawers that you could put clothes into.
Speaking of which, if you wanted to bring all of the things there was plenty of storage everywhere! As I mentioned, this room only sleeps 4, so even if you had a family of 4 I’m not sure how much you’d have to pack to need that much storage!
In the hallway you have a full closet, plus an area with hooks and some shelves for things like jackets and shoes.
In the living room you had a full set of drawers under the television, plus a long drawer that pulled out below the bench in the dining area. The coffee table was also a storage device that you could lift up and put things into. Not to mention several empty cabinets in the kitchen for whatever else you might need to store there, like groceries.
But back to the living room. There’s an extra sitting chair here, plus a small end table where you have the phone and Hey Disney. And a few lamps.
Bathroom
You technically have a 1.5 bathroom here I suppose, though not in the way you might think. Typically that would mean there’s 1 full bathroom (toilet and shower/tub) and 1 half bathroom (just the toilet). Here you had a full with a toilet and shower, and then a separate area with just a bathtub.
I suppose it’s all part of the same “bathroom”, but there was a door between them so you could potentially use the bathtub at the same time someone was using the toilet or shower. And it does at least give you two sinks for people getting ready in the morning!
The main area of the bathroom has a large marble sink area with the toilet and the shower. The shower is a stand-alone shower (not a tub combo), and it was huge. There were two showerhead options. One was the more typical showerhead mounted on the wall, and the other was a directly overhead on the ceiling (I think it might be called a rainfall).
The bedroom
The master bedroom has 1 king size bed. When you first enter the bedroom, you’ll find a full length mirror on the left and a desk area on the right (with another mirror above it).
You had two night stands on either side of the bed, and each one had outlets and USB plugs. The lights above the bed were kind of neat too – each side had its own lights, and they were on a dimmer so you could adjust them as needed.
Across from the bed you had a television on top of a chest of drawers (yes, more actual drawers, not another hidden bed!), and next to that was a stand-alone closet where you could hang some items.
The bedroom also had a door onto the balcony.
Themeing
The themeing at Wilderness Lodge is somewhat subtle, but there are still some nice details. The artwork isnthe bedroom was particularly nice. We had some framed artwork of nature, as well as a framed ticket for the “Carolwood Railroad,” dated 1954. I don’t know if this is authentic or a re-creation, but it was still a neat touch.
There was lots of dark wood everywhere, with a very “natural” feel to it – for example, the headboard above the bed was an uneven cut.
There was a nice pattern on the floor when you first entered, and for the most part all of the decor was shades of browns and greens.
It was pretty but nothing outstanding. One thing that surprised me a little bit was the lack of any Disney touches. It doesn’t have to be over the top like the value resorts, but I appreciate it when they incorporate some Disney decor in a more subtle way.
I believe Wilderness Lodge used to have some Chip and Dale themeing, which makes a lot of sense to me. They are a pretty natural fit and you could add some details that wouldn’t be too in your face. There are a lot of things you could do, honestly. I think some scenes from Bambi would be gorgeous here as well.

Overall thoughts on the Wilderness Lodge 1-bedroom villa
The room was nice, but I’m not necessarily dying to stay here again. While it was very pretty, it also felt somewhat stark and not terribly “Disney” or even “luxury.” Don’t get me wrong, the space of the 1-bedroom villa is fantastic and you get a lot in those 1-bedrooms. But they are pretty similar to 1-bedrooms at any DVC resort, and I’ve enjoyed the themeing and details much more in other resorts.
I did really love the balcony and the view we had from here. The grounds of Wilderness Lodge are pretty stunning, and being able to look out at them was great. The resort itself is fairly compact, so you can walk around easily. Our room had a great location right by the elevator.
For me personally, Wilderness Lodge just doesn’t have much “extra” that jumps out at me or makes me want to return. The location seemed like it would be great, but we found transportation to often be a lengthy experience with stops at multiple nearby resorts (more on that when I do a full resort review). And not having that 5th sleeper in these rooms seems like a pretty big downside to a 1-bedroom villa.
I certainly wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again, but I can’t say that I’d ever choose it as my first option when booking a room.

Have you stayed in a Wilderness Lodge 1-bedroom villa? How did you like it?

We should have thrown on some swimsuits and had a three-person bath. >D
Why is there table seating for six and beds for four? Things to ponder.
Wishes and the Water Pageant were pretty sweet though! So glad I got to tag along <3
If we ever stay somewhere with an epic bathtub, don’t let me pass on that opportunity again! We did hit the hot tub though 🙂
