Sometimes the toughest part about training for a run is finding the time to fit in all the runs! That’s one of the reasons why I’m a big fan of the Galloway training program. He generally takes it pretty easy on you. Only 2 short runs and 1 long run are required each week.
I managed to squeeze in my two short runs early in the week, since I knew I wouldn’t have any time to run from Wednesday-Saturday (I was away at Blogger Bash and then working on Saturday and hosting a murder mystery party!).
I did my first short run on Sunday in the morning to get it out of the way and before the weather got even more hot than it already was.
The second short run was on Tuesday. I was running around like crazy trying to get stuff done and pack before my conference! I was so tempted to skip this run but my wonderful husband pushed me to get out and do it. At least I was pretty consistent with my two 30-minute runs this week!
Then the long run had to wait until Sunday. Luckily it was only 3 miles. Because we’d had a late night the evening before hosting a murder mystery party, I wasn’t able to drag myself out of bed early. That meant it was warm, almost 85 degrees, by the time I got out to run. My pace was slower but really, it should be. I’m in a marathon training group on facebook and someone posted this graphic the other day:
It definitely makes me feel a lot better about being slower in the summer! Luckily the humidity wasn’t as bad today as it has been some other days so it was just the heat to deal with. The most important thing, especially for marathon training, is just that I got it done! Distance is much more important than speed and I just need to remember that going forward.
How are you surviving the heat this weekend?
I don’t even want to go outside in this weather, much less run in it!
I don’t blame you, I’ve been pretty miserable on my runs lately!
I’m training for the WDW marathon too! Do you live near Disneyland? I live in Orange County and have been looking for running groups/buddies for when the long runs start to get longer. I’m Kirsten by the way 🙂
Oh that’s awesome! Unfortunately I live on the other side of the country – I’m in Pennsylvania. Are you following the Jeff Galloway training plan?
Oh bummer you’re so far! Yup I’m following his plan! Just did my 5 mile run this morning because I can’t tomorrow. Not excited for 7 miles in two weeks :/
I did mine this morning too since I have plans tomorrow! I think it’s the furthest I’ve run in awhile lol so I need to get back into the game. The longer runs during these hot months are the worst.
I’ve pretty much maxed at 5 miles too since the Tinker Bell half in May. I’m hoping to get one more half marathon in before January just to see how training is going. I love the race environment!
I agree, the races are so motivating! I’m now signed up for 2 half marathons before the full, one in September and one in October. So I think that will help keep me going!
