We are on week 2 of marathon training! I don’t think I mentioned it last week, but the first week or 2 of training overlapped with another running program I’d been doing. I participated in a “run streak” – I vowed to run every day from Memorial Day to the 4th of July. And I actually did it! This past week was the end of that streak, and while I’m proud of what I accomplished I’m also glad it’s over. Having a rest day or two thrown in is pretty nice!
Even though it’s been hot this week we were up in the Poconos for the holiday weekend, where it was a lot cooler. I did my 2 30 minute runs while we were up there because the weather was too nice not to! It’s gorgeous. And I love Galloway, still easing us into the training with a 4 mile long run this week.
I did my first 30 minute run on Saturday up around the lake in the Poconos. It’s a little more than a mile around the lake so I did three laps. Even though it only takes us about an hour and a half to drive up there the temperature difference is remarkable. We’d been dealing with low 90’s all week and suddenly I’m running in 60 degree weather! I actually wished I’d brought a thicker headband to cover my ears because the wind was nipping at me!
The next day I did another 30 minute run around the lake. I couldn’t resist, knowing that I probably won’t see weather like this for awhile. It was a little warmer this day, closer to 70 degrees, and it was pretty much perfect for running.
Once I returned home I had to do my 4 mile run for the week. I decided to do it Thursday night. I waited until 9pm when it was maybe a little bit cooler (but not much). The humidity has been awful this week. And I know I shouldn’t complain because I know my friends in Florida have it worse, but it still feels bad! I took it slowly due to the heat and actually felt pretty good. The heat didn’t bother me as much as the fact that I didn’t wait long enough after eating dinner and got a little bit of a cramp. But I got it done!
Are you surviving the heat where you are? What have you been up to this week?
