Have you ever heard of an area in Hollywood Studios called the Prop Shop? Chances are you haven’t, since it’s not actually an area open to the public. The Prop Shop is a really cool space that is reserved for private parties and events. If you’re planning a wedding reception, private dinner, or anything like that you can request to use the Prop Shop.
I was fortunate enough to be able to visit the Prop Shop during a private dinner event planned with a big group of friends. This location is basically what it sounds like – a place full of old Disney props and set pieces. It used to be a queuing area for the now defunct Backlot Tours. There are so many amazing details in here to see and explore!
We had a lot of fun looking around and trying to figure out what parades or shows old props might be from. You’ll find Nemo, lots of Lion King characters, Madam Wardrobe, and so much more. We saw Aladdin’s magic lamp, old spoons from the Beauty and the Beast show, and a trio of beach women that no one could figure out what they were from.
We also had a catered dinner that was served buffet style. There was a wide variety of food options and they were all quite good. I especially enjoyed the seafood mac and cheese – that was amazing! We also had blackberry cod, a steak dish, and carved turkey in addition to vegetables and sides. And the dessert spread was pretty impressive too. There were some rice krispie treats and apple cinnamon pastries, but the real winner was those chocolate cakes that looked like wreaths! I ate way too many of those 😉
Another thing we added to our private event was a ride mix-in at Toy Story Mania and a walk through of the Osborne Lights. A mix-in is something you pay extra for and you have a tour guide who leads your group to the front of the line to ride. We then also had our tour guide walk us through to the Osborne Lights and we were able to stay until the lights went off. It was truly a magical experience.
What do you think of the Prop Shop?
oh my gosh this looks amazing, I so want to check this out. props are one of my favorite things, I worked as a stage manager in high school. And I LOVE disney.
It was so cool exploring all of the props! We were actually supposed to be in a different venue originally and then they switched us to this and I was so excited!
When we went to disney world we only have 3 days and didn’t go to Hollywood Studio. I am still said about this! The Prop Shop looks really cool though.
Honestly, I don’t blame you for skipping Hollywood Studios! There are some cool things, but especially with the construction right now it’s not the best experience for everyone.
I’m so bummed I didn’t know about this! I would have loved to check it out, but then again, I didn’t have any reason for renting the place out. A wedding though.. now that would be interesting!
I’ve actually seen pictures of a wedding reception here and it looked so cool! My husband and I are talking about someday doing a vow renewal at Disney (maybe for 20 or 25 years) and I would definitely consider this space!
That looks like so much fun! I love seeing behind the scenes stuff.
It was really neat! I spent so much time just looking at everything.
