Blog updates
In terms of numbers, I struggled a lot with the blog, honestly. My pageviews have been going down this whole year, but in August they just really tanked. It’s frustrating. I know from other bloggers this often happens in August when people are going on vacation and getting back to school, they don’t check blogs (or do Disney research!) as much. I’ve also heard that Pinterest has been changing their algorithms around again, and since 80% of my traffic comes from Pinterest that could be a big problem. But especially with the decline I’ve been having all year, it’s a little tough.
Otherwise, I did feel like I was consistent with blogging. I wasn’t skipping days I had planned to post something and I was pre-writing almost everything a few days ahead of time. I got extremely raw and honest with one of my most heartfelt posts I’ve done, Disney characters who made mistakes. I’m pretty proud of that one.
August Goals
Let’s see how I did on those August goals:
- Make my email opt-in look presentable and ready to go (yes! Hoping to launch it this month. I worry that with the amount of time I’ve spent on it, I’ll launch it and the whole thing will just flop. But we’ll see.)
- Start the online photography course I got from Groupon (yes, two lessons down!)
- Pre-write at least 2 posts over the weekend for the coming week (most of the time I actually got this done!)
- Post the video I made using Lumen5 (I did share my “Disney Bucket List” video to facebook).
- Update 4 old blog post graphics (I did one. So not quite).
- Run at least 2 times a week, even if I feel like I have good excuses not to. It will not only be better for my physical health, but my mental health as well. (Yes, I got 8 runs done in August so 2 a week. I’d like to get myself back to running 3 days a week but it’s good progress!).
- Look into and make an appointment with a counselor/therapist. (This I didn’t do. The idea scares me a little and honestly it’s so hard for me to even know where to start to find one whom I might be comfortable with. So I’ve put it off).
- Use my planner more often to stay organized. (Kind of? I did keep track of my blog posting schedule, but didn’t use it for much else.)
September blog goals
- Launch my email opt-in incentive
- Update 4 old blog posts
- Finish the online photography course I’m taking
- Increase my pageviews from August
September personal goals
- Audition for another show (1940’s Radio Hour)
- Run 3 days a week, with the exception of the week I’m on vacation in Disney!
- Get the living room more clean and organized
- Read at least 4 books
What are your goals for the upcoming month?
I noticed my page views going quite low in the last months, too. I don’t know if something is happening around the blogosphere or I’m doing something wrong. I feel you, it’s very frustrating.
Let’s make September our month!

Yeah, September has gotten a little better but not a ton. I’m kind of at a loss for what to do.
I think you did pretty great with your goals for August. My pageviews have been lower than usual too, but I’m hoping Fall will bring everyone back up. Good luck with the audition!! ps. I’ve been in therapy before, and while it may seem scary at first, it can be really helpful, and I actually looked forward to going. It’s nice to just be able to talk without any judgement.
Thanks! Unfortunately I didn’t get into the show I auditioned for and have nothing on the horizon, but it’s time to focus on other things.
Wow! Sounds like you had a really great month in August! I want to get back into running, too, since I used to love it but haven’t bothered in years! Best of luck on your September goals!
Thank you! It’s been great weather around here for running lately.
How do you get Pinterest traffic?
The biggest key is designing good images that catch people’s attention and then sharing them to Pinterest. I use a free program called canva to design my images.
I think summertime brings a slump for everyone – fall seems like the perfect time to ramp back up! I’m hoping my page views increase, too! And good luck with your audition!
I really hope so! I’ve been trying to post a lot of fall related things so far. I’m getting a lot more interaction on social media but not seeing a lot in pageviews.
Great job on your goals! That was a lot to do, and you nailed a lot of it!
I’ll admit, I’m pretty excited to see what that e-mail incentive is!! 😀
Thanks Amy! I just launched it on Monday!
You get really great on your goals in August! For me Instagram was rough for me in August. I gained followers then lost some. My page views were not bad thankfully though I did not blog as much as I had wanted too. That’s awesome that you’ve been running more! Good luck with your goals this month!
I find instagram is always frustrating for me, so I don’t worry much about my numbers on there. I just enjoy being able to share and view beautiful photos!
I’m so sorry your traffic has tanked and I am sorry about all that stuff with Pinterest.
I hope this month is so much better for you!
Thanks. So far it’s been at least slightly bettter. Hopefully that will keep going.
Wow, great job in writing attainable goals and sticking to a majority of them! I read that having 3 things in progress at any given time helps you focus on getting those done. Committing to and running two times a week is impressive! Counseling/therapist I’ve struggled with too- similar reasons. I’ll commit to finding someone this month if you do too!! 🙂 It’s overwhelming but just starting the process- picking someone and making an appointment. Deal? 🙂
Thanks! I have a friend who recommended her therapist to me – I might start there.
I’m going to try to find someone nearby.
I made an appt for oct 16th!!!
That’s awesome, good for you!! I hope it goes well!
Congratulations on sticking to most of your goals 🙂 I need to start working on updating old blog posts as well!

Thanks – it’s a long and frustrating process but seems to pay off!
