A look at our trip sailing on the Disney Fantasy in October 2024 – today we look at our second day on the ship, with the itinerary stopping in Nassau!
Come cruise with me as I recap my trip on the Disney Fantasy! This was a 4-night itinerary with stops in the Bahamas at Nassau and Lighthouse Point, Disney’s newest island.
Jogging, breakfast, and the Rainforest Room
The next morning I woke up and we were in Nassau! I had already decided I wouldn’t be getting off the ship at this stop – I’d been to Nassau a few times before, and I wanted time to explore the Disney Fantasy.
I woke up around 8, and decided to get my run in for the day. I debated between going to the gym to use a treadmill, or the jogging path on deck 4. I decided to do some outside running and headed to deck 4. I ran for about half an hour.
While it was kind of nice to be outside, and seeing the ocean and sun was pretty, it’s a fairly short path. You need to do 2.5 laps just to hit mile. So even for a shorter 3 mile run, you’re talking the same loop 7.5 times. Plus as the morning went on there were cast members doing work, and then they set up a photopass in the middle of the jogging path, so I had to do a lot of walking around people. I’m glad I got most of the run in while it was still earlier in the day!
Once my run was done I grabbed some breakfast at Cabana’s. This turned out to be terrible timing, as it was packed (this was maybe around 9:15am). People had been able to dis-embark already, so I was hoping they would have all gotten breakfast sooner. What I discovered was that many people were thinking like me and did not get off the ship at all.
Breakfast was fine. There’s a decent variety, though most of it is pretty standard stuff. You’ll have breakfast meats, eggs prepared a few different ways, pastries, yogurt, etc. There were one or two more “interesting” dishes, like a breakfast fried rice.
After breakfast I decided to spend some time in the Rainforest Room. This was another instance where my timing was pretty good – while it was busy it wasn’t overly crowded when I got there, but about an hour later it was completely packed. They only sell a limited number of passes to the Rainforest Room, but I guess they don’t anticipate everyone trying to go at the same time. I saw people come in, give up, and leave because there really wasn’t much space for them.
This was a trend throughout our entire time in Nassau. I don’t anticipate the ship being empty on Nassau days – other people often choose to stay on board, but usually enough get off that it feels a little bit better. The weather was just not in our favor this day. While it was sunny, it was also extremely windy and actually a bit chilly. That also meant that many people were avoiding the pool deck. Disney was not prepared for this as they also offer fewer on board activities on port days (and really, how could they be?). But it did mean that everywhere we went that day felt overwhelmingly crowded.
Trivia & the Midship Detective Agency
This was also the case at our next stop, where I met up with some friends for Disney Food Trivia. There were so many people in a somewhat small space. A lot were standing. People were also loud and somewhat rude, in my opinion. There was a lot of loud talking while the cast member was reading the clues. All in all, not my favorite trivia experience.
So what to do next? Play the Midship Detective Agency game! If you’re not familiar, this is an interactive sort of scavenger hunt where you go around the ship collecting clues to solve a mystery. Some of the paintings on board are actually interactive screens, and you can activate them to gather your next clue.
There are a few different mysteries you can solve, but of course I chose the Muppets! It’s a ton of fun, and if you haven’t tried it (I believe it’s on both the Dream and the Fantasy), I won’t spoil it for you. But you know you’re in for a good time when Pepe the Prawn tells you he’s temporarily taken over for Mickey Mouse.
Goofy’s Sports Simulator
After doing that for awhile, one of my friends had a reservation to try the golf simulator at Goofy’s Sports Simulator. Since it was something I hadn’t tried before, I tagged along to watch and check it out!
You do have to pay extra for this, but it’s a neat option for an on-board activity. There are two simulators. One side is set up for golf, and other has a variety of sports you can choose from. On the golf simulator side you can choose from all sorts of different courses to play with various difficulty levels. You hit your ball into the screen as if you were actually golfing. It was pretty neat to watch!
I was also able to watch the other side for a bit, with different sports. There were a few kids trying it out. They tried soccer, cricket, and a few others. The younger ones had some trouble getting enough momentum for the ball to reach the screen (and be effective), but the older ones seemed to have a lot of fun.
Tequila and Margarita Tasting
I grabbed a small lunch after that (I was still pretty full from breakfast!). Then it was off to our next activity – the Tequila and Margarita tasting.
I absolutely love doing the Beverage Seminars on Disney Cruise Line. They are an extra fee, but you get a few drinks and you get to learn about them. I love learning new things!
I plan to write a full blog post on each of the tastings I did this sailing, but I’ll provide a short summary here. I’ve done a number of other ones, but this was the first time I tried the Tequila and Margarita tasting.
The cast member was very knowledgeable and started off telling us all about tequila. How it’s made, where it comes from, what it needs to be in order to be called tequila. We went over the differences between tequila blanco, reposado, anejo, and mezcal.
We next tried two different types of tequila – as shots! For these types of tequilas (the cheaper ones and less aged, basically), he informed us they are typically done as shots (not a sipping tequila). We also had one sipping tequila, an anejo… but the party wasn’t over yet! These were followed by samplings of two different types of margaritas. We tried a classic margarita and a jalapeno mezcal margarita.
They were both quite good, though the last one was pretty spicy. Needless to say, we were feeling pretty good at the end of this tasting! We were seated with a fun group of people too. All in all, another great experience.
Trick-or-Treating
This day was when the Halloween celebrations were happening, so there was no stage show in the evening. I took a quick nap before getting my (somewhat simple) costume on and going to try the Trick-or-Treating.
It’s crazy but I never really got a picture in my costume! I did a Captain Carter outfit, so it was mostly just the shield and a t-shirt. I guess that means I’ll have to wear it again sometime.
The Trick-or-Treating was okay. You basically walked through Cabanas and stopped every few yards to collect some candy. The cast members were nice and excited. The best part was probably seeing all the costumes of the other guests!
Dinner at Royal Court
Dinner that evening was at the Royal Court. I have to admit that the appetizer and entree options were a bit underwhelming. For my meal I got the Oven-Baked Salmon Royale (crowned with King Smoked Salmon and Horseradish Crust accompanied by Sautéed Swiss Chard, Truffled Cauliflower Purée and White Wine Beurre Blanc):
The flavors were nice and the salmon was cooked well, but it was a bit subtle. I actually added some salt and thought that improved it a lot.
Dessert was a highlight though! I had my favorite, the Grand Marnier Soufflé served with Grand Marnier Crème Anglaise. They also brought us a special Halloween dessert. This was adorable, though very chocolate-y. I had a few tasty bites!
After dinner I was planning to go to the Halloween “performance,” Mickey’s Mouse-querade. It had started raining a bit and was still very windy, so they ended up moving from the pool deck inside to the atrium. This space is a lot smaller and doesn’t accommodate people very well.
I attempted to watch the show, but was feeling very overwhelmed and claustrophobic. I caught a glimpse of a character dancing here and there, but I ultimately decided to give up and just go to bed. That was a little disappointing, and overall I was pretty underwhelmed with the Halloween aspect of the cruise.
But everything else had been a ton of fun, and I was looking forward to the next day when we would be at Lighthouse Point!
