Since I participated in a race this past week as part of my training, I decided to do a little recap of that in addition to my weekly update! On Saturday I headed down to Williamsburg to run in the Run for the Dream 8k. They also had a 5k and a half marathon during the weekend. It started at 7am, but since we were staying in the host hotel the race basically started right outside our door so I didn’t have to leave until 6:30! The expo was also at the hotel and we got a nice shirt. There were some vendors too and I bought a new bondi band.
It was a warm morning, but the course is really beautiful. You run a portion of it through Colonial Williamsburg, past all the historic buildings, and then to the William and Mary campus, ending inside the stadium. It was mostly flat except for the last mile, which had some hills.
It was also a rather laid back race. There were other people there talking about the Disney races, which was cool. I finished pretty much in the middle of the group – 37 out of 82 for my age group, 689 out of 1325 overall. I finished in 54:51, which was a pace of about 11:02 min/mile. Better than my 5k at the winery last week!
I really enjoyed this race and would love to go back next year and do the half marathon. Plus we then spent the day over at Busch Gardens enjoying the food and wine festival!
I counted this as my “long” race for the week, even though the training only required 3 miles. 5 miles is better, right? 😉
My other two runs earlier in the week, my half hour runs, were okay. My pace on both was slower than it was for the race.
On Wednesday I ran at night because it was so hot during the day, but I think I didn’t leave enough time after eating dinner because I was feeling a little sick to my stomach. If I end up with more evening runs because of the heat I’ll have to eat earlier.
