Portobello review

February 20, 2017 by Becky 2 Comments

Disney Springs has gone through a number of changes recently, including the addition of a number of new restaurants.  However, some restaurants there were around before still made the cut, including Portobello.  Located in “The Landing” of Disney Springs, they serve up delicious Italian food.

I visited for the first time in December, when I flew down to get my 25 mile training run in before the marathon.  Of course before a big run I need to carb load!  And Portobello was a place I hadn’t tried yet.  My friends who were kind enough to let me stay at their house at that weekend met up for dinner with me.

We decided to start out the evening with a couple of appetizers to share.  They also brought bread out which was served with roasted garlic drizzled in olive oil.  This has to be one of the best ways to enjoy bread, and for me beats regular old butter any day.  Though if you prefer butter you can ask for that as well.

The first appetizer we got was the mozzarella stuffed rice balls (crispy fried risotto, fresh mozzarella, marinara sauce).  This was probably my favorite part of the meal.  They were fried perfectly and stuffed with deliciousness.  Can’t get much better than that.

We also had the calamari (rings lightly fried with tomato basil sauce).  It was nice calamari, good and crunchy how I like it.  And it was served with a tomato basil sauce that was really delicious.  The sauce clearly used fresh basil and you could taste it.  I love fresh basil.

For my entree I got the Fettucine with shrimp (garlic, tomatoes, asparagus, lobster broth).  They were very good shrimp, though overall the flavor is the dish was a little lackluster.  The lobster broth had a really subtle flavor and could have used something a little more.

My one friend got the chicken farfalle (snow peas, asparagus, tomatoes, parmigiano cream sauce).  This looked very tasty and probably had a little more flavor than the dish I got.

And my friend was really good about picking a healthy option.  She went with the steak and potatoes.  I tried a piece and it was a tasty steak and cooked how she asked it to be.  A really nice non-pasta option.

The food was very filling so we passed on dessert.  It was a good meal and just what I needed – I would definitely consider going to Portobello again in the future before a race!  The Disney Springs location is also convenient in case you don’t have a park ticket the night before.

Have you been to Portobello before?

This place looks SO good–I’m a sucker for anything Italian, so I need to add Portobello to our dining spots the next time we’re in Disney. The chicken farfalle is probably what I would dive into since I LOVE pasta with cream sauce. I can’t believe how much Disney Springs has changed in just the last few years: when we went a few weeks ago, all of the new shops were open and it was beautiful!

That chicken farfalle looked really good – it’s probably what I would go for if/when I go back! There are so many new places I want to try in Disney Springs.
