For Halloween this year Jason and I don’t have any major plans – Halloween night itself is a Wednesday night, which means I’m at work until 9pm. My Disney trip isn’t until November so no Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party this year. We did have a Halloween party that already took place, so of course we needed some sort of costume for that! I’m also running a 5k the weekend before Halloween that encourages costumes, so I may reuse one of these costumes for the run.
We didn’t want to do anything too complicated since we don’t have major plans, but still something fun and Disney related! We are both big fans of Monsters Inc. so we thought doing Monsters Inc. Halloween costumes this year would be fun. And we decided to go with the Monsters University look since it adds something a little more to it! Here’s how we put together our costumes:
Mike Wazowski
There are a ton of different Mike Wazowski eyeball shirts out there – Amazon, Shop Disney, Etsy. I looked at many and finally decided on this one as my favorite from Magical Day Design.
If you’re a green monster you obviously need bright green leggings for your pants! I found this bright green pair on Amazon and it did the trick. They were cheap, which was good since I don’t plan to wear neon green leggings very often. I happened to have bright green socks I wore with it as well.
To complete the look I added my MU baseball cap. I actually already owned this, but you can find it on both Shop Disney and Amazon. It looks very authentic, complete with the bite taken out of it!
Sulley
When I came up with this costume I basically said to my husband, “Hey Jason – if I find an adult size Sulley onesie will you wear it for Halloween?” He said yes, and the rest was history. You can absolutely find an adult size onesie costume on Amazon, complete with tail and horns. And it did fit my 6 foot tall husband.
To go with our Monsters University theme I also grabbed this OK T-shirt from Tee Public. I’m all about the small details and having this shirt over top made it a little bit more than just throwing on a onesie.
For one last touch we also carried around a Boo plush. My friends pointed out that they didn’t meet Boo until after Monsters University… but maybe this did take place after MU and they just wanted to wear their college gear again!
“Put that thing back where it came from or so help me!”
This was one of our more simple costume ideas, but it worked really well! It was a fun way to do a couple’s costume that was a little bit different but still included two of our favorite characters.
What are you going to be for Halloween this year?
