March 2024 tournament – Marvel superheroes, round 2

The first round of the Marvel superheroes tournament has come to an end!

That means we’re on to round 2. Typically the first round is somewhat predictable. I try to seed the superheroes so you don’t have Iron Man and Captain America going head-to-head in the first round. I use my own judgment for this and I’m sure I make some mistakes, but overall I do my best.

Usually things turn out how I expected they would after round 1. And while that was mostly the case this time around, there were a few match-ups which I thought might go differently. But for the most part we’ve eliminated some of the lesser known and less popular heroes.

I do also run the voting through my Instagram stories (@disneyinyourday) so if the results here don’t look like they match up with the blog voting all the time, there’s a reason for that! I tally the Instagram results and the blog results together for the final numbers.

A few things that did stand out to me or surprised me about the votes last round. We have two heroes who were eliminated earlier than I expected. In this first round we’ve lost Thor in favor of Ant Man, and the Hulk was beat out by Star Lord. The closest match-ups (aside from those) were between Captain Marvel and Vision, Dr. Strange and Scarlet Witch, and Monica Rambeau vs. the Wasp. Some of those were really tough, and I personally could have voted either way myself!

I was also impressed that America Chavez managed to rack up more votes than I expected against Shuri. Poor Sersi only got one vote (not surprising, though – The Eternals was not a great film and she was up against Spider-Man).

And now that we’ve narrowed it down to 16, the choices may get even more difficult! There are a few match-ups this time around I’m very curious to see how they go. Spider-Man vs Captain Marvel and Black Panther vs. Scarlet Witch will be tough. All 4 are great characters. And for my personally, Captain America vs. Star Lord will be a tough one because I’ll be bummed to lose either of them. Also, he might be an underdog, but I’m rooting for Ant-Man.

So now it’s time: go and cast your votes in round 2!
