On the positive side, I can say at least I didn’t miss any of my major long runs in the training plan. On the negative side, I really didn’t stick to the plan at all this week. I only ran once this week, 1 short 30 minute run. I ended up skipping my long run, which was supposed to be 4 miles.
The one run I did was pretty rough. Even though I waited til 10pm we’re in the middle of another heat wave. And the humidity has been killer. I swear, it’s been worse here than it was when I was in Florida last week. Basically the only reason why I don’t live in Florida is to avoid the awful summers – but now you give me this, Pennsylvania?? You are really pushing things here. And when you bring more snow in the winter I’ll be even more unhappy with you. And Florida looks more and more appealing.
When I run at night I always use the flashlight on my phone, even though we have pretty good street lights around here. And with the light from my phone I could literally see the heat. There was a haze of heat and humidity all around and it was awful. I only ran for 30 minutes and literally looked like I jumped in the pool or something, I was that wet and sweaty by the end. Mmm, delightful.
But I’m disappointed in myself for not getting the full week of training in. I’ve been trying to go by a #noexcuses approach. So I can talk about the heat as much as I want, but there are still ways around it. So this coming week I’m going to try and get all the runs in. Even though we’re going into tech week for my play (which if you’re not familiar with theater, means dress rehearsals every day from Saturday-Wednesday usually from around 6:30-11pm). My goal is a short run on Sunday, short run on Tuesday, and long run on Thursday or Friday (whichever looks like it has the better weather).
Please help hold me accountable. Tell me to get up at 5am if that’s what’s necessary. Convince me to join Planet Fitness so I can use the treadmills down the street (aka dreadmills). It’s only $10/month. If it’s super hot and I have no other option at least tell me to go out and walk the distance, even if I’m not going to run.
Hopefully I’m back on track soon this week!
I LOVE treadmills! DO IT DO IT DO IT
lol you’re one of the only people I know to say they actually like treadmills!
I think you need to join Planet Fitness or buy yourself a treadmill. It is CRAZY and unhealthy to be out there exercising in this dreadful weather.
I joined the gym. It’s a new one they just built and it’s less than a mile down the street. I’m sure it will be good in the winter too when it’s too cold to run outside.
Wonderful! It’s a bargain at $10 a month even if you don’t use it that often.
You can do it! We can do it! Its funny you write this about this weeks training, because I seriously wasn’t going to do the long run either. My bf gave me crap though so I did… Rage ran the first mile super fast haha. 9 miles this week will be scary but also exciting to accomplish! I was shocked how good 7 miles felt last last week! Just gotta fuel a little better right after… I tried to do chores because I was so revved and ended up hitting a wall. I find intervals to be helpful on the treadmill, otherwise the time seems to take forever to go by. Good luck with your weather!
That’s awesome, good for you for getting it done!! I joined the gym yesterday and was very excited to see the treadmills had the intervals option – my last gym didn’t have that. I think the 9 miles this week will be exhausting because I’m in a musical opening Friday so we have dress rehearsals (and late nights) all week and then the show. But I’m off work on Friday so hoping to squeeze it in that morning!
