At the time of this post going up, I will be on a plane and on my way to Disney World! Florida weather, here I come! I’m not ready for the snow we’re getting here.
I’m super excited for Kill, Marry, Refurb this month, because it’s about something that I have a lot of experience with – thrill rides. My husband first introduced me to roller coasters, and I’ve been hooked on thrills ever since. Disney has some great ones to offer, so I knew it was going to be hard to pick something to kill! It was hard to decide whether or not some rides were considered thrill rides, so I used Disney’s official website – they group their rides, and have a heading called “thrill rides.” So if it came up there, I considered it a thrill ride.
KILL: Kali River Rapids
I desperately wanted to kill Stitch’s Great Escape, but alas, it is not considered a thrill ride. So Kali River Rapids bit the dust instead. I haven’t been on it in ages. I suppose if it’s super, super hot out it’s nice to get completely soaked, but I’m not a huge fan of being wet from head to toe. It makes the next hour or so uncomfortable, especially if you’re wearing sneakers and socks. I don’t remember much about the themeing (I guess I was too preoccupied with the waterfalls and waves), so I don’t think I was too impressed by it. Plus, this is a rather “typical” sort of ride that you find at all sorts of theme parks. I think Disney could do a more creative water ride here.
REFURB: Space Mountain
I like Space Mountain. But I keep hearing that the Disneyland version is much better. I will admit, I’ve never been to Disneyland, so I don’t know firsthand. But what I hear sounds really cool. I especially like the idea of a soundtrack playing while you ride (it’s one of the reasons I love Rockin Roller Coaster!). So even if Disney World just added that, I think it would really add to the experience. Also, and this would be a MAJOR refurb – but just how close the tracks are to each other is a bit terrifying. Spread them out a little bit so you can put your hands in the air without feeling like you’re going to smack the track above you.
MARRY: Expedition Everest
This was such a hard choice. There are two thrill rides that really hold my heart – Everest and Splash Mountain. I’m still not entirely sure I picked the right one. But if we’re talking thrill rides, Everest certainly is a bit more thrilling, though I love Splash for its classic charm. Everest is one of my favorite roller coasters I’ve ever been on, and I’ve been on a lot. I love the theming. And yes, I know the yeti doesn’t work, but it doesn’t bother me – maybe because I never got to go on it when it was actually working. For me the highlight of the ride is when you first go backward, plunging upward into darkness! I like the duality of being both inside and outside, and going backward and forward. It keeps things interesting, and it’s unique. It’s also great, and different, sitting in the front, middle, or back. Wee! Just a few days until I get to ride it again 🙂
Whoo! Hope you’re having super fun trip. 🙂
Thanks so much for playing along.
Thanks! It was really great time and I miss it already!
Space Mountain did go thru a revamp in Magic Kingdom in the past year or two.
If you marry Expedition Everest, will your marriage go through the same amounts of ups and downs and be a roller coaster ride in itself?
That’s true, and Space did definitely improve after that revamp. I think I just really like the idea of a soundtrack while riding! It’s one of the reasons I love Rockin Roller Coaster.
And hey, marriage definitely has its ups and downs so I’d say that’s a good analogy! 😉
I like and agree with all of your choices!
Everest and Splash for me as well!!!
Thanks! They are two great rides!
