Training has officially begun for the Glass Slipper Challenge! If you’re not familiar, this is an event that takes place during Disney’s Princess Half Marathon weekend. The challenge is to run the 10k on Saturday and then the half marathon on Sunday morning. For completing it you get a special Glass Slipper Challenge medal. I completed the challenge last year and I’m excited to do it again in 2016!
I usually follow the Jeff Galloway training plans, and this one was scheduled to start this week. The timing was a bit weird because I ran the Hershey half marathon on Sunday, so I needed a few days of recovery. but I still got some runs in! I was debating on whether or not I would do weekly training posts again this time, but I realized that even if other people aren’t super interested, it does hold me accountable and I need that! So here’s week 1.
The first 30 minute run I decided to forgo – or, we can say I did it on Sunday and did way more than 30 minutes when I did my half marathon! In case you missed it, I ran the Hershey half marathon last weekend.
For the second 30 minute run, I did it on Thursday and I was feeling pretty decent! I waited that long so my muscles could recover a little from the half, and also because I’m still a little bit under the weather – I’m fighting some sort of cold, which makes running difficult.
The “long” run for this first week is only 3 miles, but I got out and did it yesterday. And just because, I did 3.1 – because if you’re going to do 3 miles you might as well make it a full 5k! I’m pretty happy with my 33 minute time on the 5k. I would love to eventually get it under 30 minutes but we’ll see when that happens!
Are you interested in following along with my run training? Is there anything specific yo uwant to know about? Let me know in the comments!
Really cool. I live in FL and Ive always wanted to take part in some of the cool events Disney World holds. Where do you get the training programs for your runs? I regularly run 3 miles. But Ive never trained for anything further.
I get mine right from the RunDisney website. They have training plans for all of their races! They increase your mileage slowly so if you decide to do one it might be a good program for you!
Best wishes on your training – sounds like you’ve already got it in the bag! There’s a 10 mile CRIM run I’ve always wanted to do – even though I’ve never really loved running. Going to try to get running again and have just started back to the gym. Would love to see any tips on training for newbies. Thanks!
Thanks so much! Good luck with your 10 mile race – when I started running I never imagined I would do more than a few miles, so you can totally do it! I will think about tips for newbie runners. That may be another blog post to come in the future!
Good luck in your training, a Disney run is certainly on my bucket list
Good luck in kicking off your training for the challenge! I hadn’t heard of the Glass Slipper Challenge before, but it sounds awesome. I love Disney and just got back from a trip there about a month ago.
Thanks! I hope you had a great trip to Disney – I can’t wait to go back!
I’ve never heard of the glass slipper challenge! Sounds AWESOME!!
It is really cool! And the medal you get for doing it is awesome as well!
This is exciting – I would definitely like to follow your journey! 🙂
Thanks, I’m so glad you’ll be following along!
Wow. I’m always so impressed with all the runs you complete. Can’t wait to hear about your training and see your improvements for this one!
Thank you! I’m hoping to see improvements in my training although honestly I doubt the race itself will be my best time – Disney races are just too cool and there is too much stuff to look at. It slows me down a little haha!
Oo I love this challenge! Great job with tracking your run too. What app do you use? I use Nike+
Thanks! I use RunKeeper, but I also use my FitBit Surge to track my runs. I find the FitBit is more accurate than RunKeeper.
Your determination is so impressive!
Thanks! Running has really helped me with determination and that sort of thing.
