Remember two weeks ago when I complained my foot hurt after my longer run? Well, it seems it wasn’t just a one time thing because I had bad foot pain after my longer run this week too. It seems fine on the short runs, but once I hit over 4 miles it starts hurting. So I went to our local running store to find some new shoes. My salesperson was very helpful and assisted me in finding a new pair that are still fairly minimalist as I prefer, but have a little more support to them. They are Adidas, which is a departure from my usual New Balance. I’m excited to try them out!
This week is week 5 and we’re up to 6.5 miles on the long run, which is currently right at the point where it still feels very manageable to me. Once I get to 8+ miles that’s when it currently really starts getting to be a challenge. Oh, the things to look forward to!
Monday was a great run. I love days like this. The weather was perfect at around 65 degrees and I was just feeling good. One of my best times for a run of this length.
Thursday wasn’t quite as good as Monday but certainly not bad. The downside is that it was pouring rain so I had to go to the gym and use the treadmill – not my favorite way to run, but it had to be done. A little slower but still a time I am very happy with.
Friday was my 6.5 mile run, which I already talked a little bit about. Overall I was feeling pretty good, but I did have to take a short break when my foot started hurting. I adjusted my shoe and laces and that seemed to help, at least enough for me to finish the run. Hopefully the new shoes will take care of the problem completely.
When is the last time you bought running shoes? Do you have a favorite brand?
Asics…hands down are my favorite sneakers
I almost bought a pair of those! Maybe I’ll get to try them in the future.
It would be good to go and get your feet adjusted by a sports chiropractor. I am a chiropractor and I get my feet adjusted all the time. Helps tons.
That’s an excellent idea – I will definitely look into that.
Oh my gosh your pace is so fast! I’m so excited for you Becky. I can’t remember if I commented this last time or not but I went for a 4 miler the other day and it made me think about starting another half. Maybe. You are my inspiration!! And good for you for hopping on that treadmill in the rain…I call it the “DREAD-Mill.” lol
Aww thanks! That’s awesome that you’re thinking about doing another half – it is hard but so rewarding! And I call it the dreadmill too haha, I might have to be back there this week because it’s getting cold and I can’t stand the cold!
So why does it mean when a running shoe is “minimalist”?
Basically that it’s a more lightweight shoe. Less padding and stuff.
I hope these Adidas will solve any foot pain you’re feeling! Foot pain is the worst when you’re out on a long running it is all you can think about.
Thank you! I’m certainly hoping they will take care of the problem. I’m really looking forward to trying them out, but have to wait til my foot heals!
I need new running shoes. My current pair are Nikes, and I love them, but they are so worn out. I just can’t seem to find a pair I like as well.
It is so hard to get a new pair when you have ones you really love!
I really hope that these new shoes solve any issues you are having! I don’t know much about running shoes, but I like the looks of these ones.:)
Thanks! I like how they look too, so that’s definitely a start! 😉
I love new balance. I’ve run a marathon, several half marathons and a host of other races and have always worn new balance. Good luck with your training!
My past 4 pairs of running shoes have all been New Balance and I’ve been mostly happy, so I’m a little nervous to try something new!
I like the look of those! Very nice!
Thanks! I tried them out today and they feel nice too 🙂
