I love blogging. But before I started writing about Disney and reading Disney blogs I listened to Disney podcasts. I still do listen to a lot, and I love to hear people discuss the latest Disney news and hot topics. It had always been a dream of mine to start my own podcast, but I didn’t have the technical knowledge so I never put forth the effort to making it happen. Then I got involved in blogging and while I still love the idea of starting a Disney podcast, I don’t have the time to dedicate to something like that right now.
So I was absolutely thrilled when Joseph from Talk about the Magic contacted me and asked if I’d like to be a guest on his podcast! He interviews a number of Disney bloggers, youtubers, and anyone else involved in the Disney community. I found his podcast to be really unique, which I loved. It’s not just about Disney, but the “entrepreneur” side of Disney.
When the day came to record I admit, I was a little bit nervous! But once we got started I felt at ease right away. Joseph was so easy to talk to and a great interviewer. I talked about how I got started blogging, some of my biggest things I’ve learned along the way, and how I choose to measure success. Then at the end of the show we of course talked Disney! Favorite park, tips and tricks, and a few other fun things.
If you’re a blogger or someone who might be on a podcast someday, I have a couple of tips from what I learned from my first experience!
- Be prepared. See if you can get the questions and an idea for what will happen ahead of time so you’re not left searching for thoughts.
- Try to be natural. Forget that you’re being recorded and try to just see it as talking to a friend. Just because you’re prepared (see above) doesn’t mean you should sound rehearsed.
- Be yourself. Whatever you’re talking about, odds are good you have a unique perspective on it (that’s why you were asked to be on the podcast!). So let that come through!
- Try not to be nervous. Most podcasters have editing software, so even if you stumble over your words or get stuck for a moment they can usually fix it up and make you sound good 🙂
If you’re interested in listening you can check it out here. I think both other bloggers and Disney fans will really enjoy it. And take a listen to some of the other episodes too, I think Joseph has a good thing going here! I had a great time doing it and I hope I’ll get to join in on other Disney podcasts in the future.
Do you enjoy podcasts? Will you give this one a listen?
Becky, what are some of your favorite Disney podcasts?
Funny you should ask, because I have a blog post on that too! 😉 http://www.disneyinyourday.com/2015/09/17/5-great-disney-podcasts/
I’m barely getting into podcasts so I’m definitely checking this out! More Disney is always good (:
I agree, I can never get enough Disney!
I love podcasts! I listen to them when I’m out on runs or if I’m out for a long walk. So relaxing and can be extremely informative. 🙂
I need to walk more and podcasts are a great way to pass the time! I also listen to them on my commute 🙂
Oh my goodness! This is so exciting!!
I know, it was really fun to do!
Such good tips for future podcasters!
