DL half marathon training: 7 weeks to go!

shoes

This was a week full of ups and downs in terms of running!  I did decide to finally get new sneakers, which is a little bit exciting and a little bit annoying because I have to break them in.  I think they’re cute, but I definitely need to tighten up the laces because I noticed they felt a little loose on my run this morning!

week 11

This week I (gasp) skipped one of the runs on my training plan.  I’ll explain why in a moment, but I only got 2 runs in this week instead of 3.

week 11 sun

Sunday morning’s run was amazing.  Again, we were at the Poconos, and I knew I had to get in one more run before we left so I did my 30 minute run Sunday morning.  It wasn’t too hot and I ran around the lake and just felt great.  I managed to run 3 miles in a pace under 10 min/mile!  I was extremely happy with this run.

On Wednesday I had planned to run my other 30 minute run.  I even woke up extra early before work to do it, which is  challenging for me.  And I noticed a twinge in my back but didn’t think it was that bad… but then as I was getting dressed and putting my sneakers on until it got worse and worse and I was in such excruciating pain that I could hardly move.  I took a lot of ibuprofen and a really hot bath to get it manageable, but while I could then function enough to go to work, I definitely didn’t want to risk taking a run.

week 11 fri

Luckily today I felt pretty much back to normal and set out to do my 4 mile run.  I did still have a tiny bit of pain and I was breaking in my new shoes for the first time, so maybe my pace wasn’t exactly where I wanted it to be, but I wasn’t unhappy with it!  Getting closer to the Disneyland half!

Good luck to you. I can barely walk that far let alone run.

Aw thank you! I do use a combination of running and walking – I certainly wouldn’t be able to run the whole time, I just don’t think my body is cut out for that!

I wish I could do something like this. Unfortunately, with fibro it doesn’t allow me to. Good Luck!

Thanks! I know how tough that can be – my mom has it too.

Sorry to hear about your back. I have a really bad back from years of dancing, and it acts up all the time. Continued good luck on your training and marathon.

Thanks. I actually dance too and I had a rather intensive rehearsal on Tuesday night so I’m thinking that’s what it was from.
