Disney news, rumors, and round up – May 2024

Last updated May 4, 2024 by Becky Leave a Comment

I may be up in Pennsylvania, but the past few days it’s been feeling like I’m in Florida with the crazy heat and humidity we’ve been getting (in early May!). This weather always makes me think of Disney, so I don’t mind it too much… though I will say I’d much rather put up with the high temps when I can be on a roller coaster or hanging out with Mickey rather than going to work! Speaking of – work (as in, the real life work, not this blog or Disney stuff!) has been super busy, so I missed posting the April news. Now you get April and May, so there’s a lot this month!

Disney News

  • A new summer show with an Encanto theme will be coming to Epcot! From June 10-Sept 6, a summer sing-along show called ¡Celebración Encanto! will be performed several times throughout the day at the new CommuniCore Plaza stage.
  • Test Track will close for an extended period of time for a re-themeing starting on June 17th, 2024. No re-opening date has yet been announced.
  • CommuniCore Hall will open in Epcot on June 10.
  • The 2024 Disney Legends have been announced – notable additions include James Cameron, Jamie Lee Curtis, Harrison Ford, Frank Oz, Joe Rhode, and John Williams.
  • The new Fort Wilderness Cabins, which are part of Disney Vacation Club, are available for booking and we’ve learned a little more about them and what to expect. One important update is that they are officially considered a “Deluxe Villa” instead of a moderate resort (which means they will qualify for Extended Evening Hours). Keep in mind that the non-DVC Fort Wilderness Cabins will still be part of the moderate category.
  • Joy from Inside Out will start doing meet and greets in Hollywood Studios at Pixar Plaza on June 10th.
  • A new drone show is coming to Disney Springs. It will be called “Dreams that Soar” and will play in the evenings from May 24th-September 2nd.
  • Pixar Fest has begun at Disneyland Resort! The Festival will run from April 26th until August 4th.
  • We’ve also seen a lot of new restaurants opening in Disneyland! Some upcoming additions include Paseo, Céntrico and Tiendita opening this month, Din Tai Fung coming this summer, and a New Steakhouse and BBQ restaurant in the works.
  • Disneyland Paris’s second park – currently called Walt Disney Studios – is going to be seeing a big re-imagining with new rides and experiences, and even a new name: Disney Adventure World.
  • Disney Cruise Line has announced their next new ship – it will be called the Disney Destiny, and have a “Heroes and Villains” theme.
  • With Disney’s new private island opening to cruise line guests in just a few weeks, we’re getting lots of updates on Lookout Cay – including the entertainment and food.
  • Disney has made some updates to the their DAS (Disability Access Service), and you can find information and answers to many of your questions here.

Disney rumors

Disneyland Paris // With the new Disney Adventure World announcement, we’re hearing whisperings of what new attractions might be included. One rumor includes a new Star Wars Land (not Galaxy’s Edge) that would have a Mandalorian and Baby Yoda roller coaster.

Hollywood Studios // A lot of speculation (and, perhaps, common sense) suggests that Disney will not try to build or open anything massive in 2025, and will not try to compete with Universal’s Epic Universe.

Genie+ // We’ve gotten plenty of hints that Genie+ will change at some point in the future, but we still haven’t recieved any details on how or when that will happen. Some rumors lately suggest that we’ll see some updates rolled out in July or August – potentially in anticipation of the opening of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

About Me

Hi, I'm Becky!

I'm a huge Disney fan in my early 30's and always trying to find a way to put a little bit of Disney into everyday life. I live in Pennsylvania but travel to the theme parks several times a year - I'm an annual passholder at Disney World! In addition to Disney I love traveling, running, and theater.
