You might know that I have a thing for subscription boxes – especially Disney subscription boxes! After all, I love surprises. So getting a box of fun Disney goodies in the mail once a month is right up my alley. Disney offers a few official boxes but most of them have been for children. Recently, however, they introduced the Disney Backstage Collection.
They advertise it as being a box to “celebrate the rich heritage of the Walt Disney Company.” Sounds like something promising for big Disney fans – and the merchandise is exclusive to the subscription, so you won’t find it anywhere else. They showed images of the t-shirt included in the first box, and I really liked it so I decided to try a 6 month subscription.
The box is $35 a month if you subscribe for 12 months, $38/month is you sign up for 6 months, or $40/month if you do the 3 month plan.
It’s kind of incorrect to call is a “box,” as the items actually come in a canister, which is considered a collectible itself. I’m not quite sure what I’ll do with 6 Disney canisters though. I did see one photo on instagram that said they are the perfect size to hold a bottle of wine. So… wine bottle decor, Disney style?
The welcome box theme is “Disney Bros Studio”, taking it back to the beginning when the company was just Walt and Roy. There is a little info card that explains a bit about what is in your box and the history of what was going on then. I like this little bit of history. The pin for this month looks like a glass window with the logo on it.
The shirt was the main reason why I got this box, because I loved the vintage look to it and the history that it has. And it’s lovely in person – plus the material is very soft. The downside is the fit. It says the shirts are unisex. I normally wear a women’s medium so I ordered a small. I own plenty of unisex t-shirts and none of them fit (or don’t fit) quite like this. The body of the shirt is VERY boxy, which is not the most flattering look, and the sleeves are still huge.
I’m going to see if I can alter it a little to fit better, or worst case scenario it becomes a sleep shirt. I’ve requested an XS for the next box to see if that helps at all!
Overall I have mixed feelings on this subscription – you’re mainly paying for a t-shirt. I like the design but the fit wasn’t great, so I can only hope this improves with future boxes. Otherwise I don’t see it being worth almost $40/month for me.
What theme would you like the see for the Disney Backstage Collection?
Wow, what a fun subscription box! I have a few Disney fanatic friends I will have to recommend this to!
Aw that stinks that it wasn’t really what you were hoping for. Hopefully future boxes are better!
That’s what I’m hoping!
I love subscription boxes, but this one doesn’t sound like it’s quite worth the money for what you get. However, I would be interested to see some of the future boxes, since the concept is intriguing.
Yeah, I’m committed to 6 months, so we’ll see!
I love subscription boxes and I love Disney! I can’t wait to hear more about the other boxes you get, bummer that the shirt didn’t fit quite right this time!
I’m hoping switching the size to XS will help!
Thank you for being so honest! Good to know!
Of course!
