You might know that I have a thing for subscription boxes – especially Disney subscription boxes! After all, I love surprises. So getting a box of fun Disney goodies in the mail once a month is right up my alley. Disney offers a few official boxes but most of them have been for children. Recently, however, they introduced the Disney Backstage Collection.
They advertise it as being a box to “celebrate the rich heritage of the Walt Disney Company.” Sounds like something promising for big Disney fans – and the merchandise is exclusive to the subscription, so you won’t find it anywhere else. I got my first box last month and thought it was okay, but was slightly disappointed with the fit of the shirt.
The box is $35 a month if you subscribe for 12 months, $38/month is you sign up for 6 months, or $40/month if you do the 3 month plan.
It seems every month will include the same exact items, just around a different theme: a canister, a t-shirt, a pin, and an info card. The second box is themed after Toy Story 4, and specifically features Woody and Duke Kaboom.
The shirt and canister both have concept art that features them doing a silly pose with the phrase “Am I doing this right?” and “Very good cowboy!! Don’t bend your knees!” While I really enjoyed Toy Story 4, the art for this shirt seems really specific and honestly wasn’t a highlight of the movie for me. I don’t see myself wearing this around anywhere so it will probably be a sleep shirt. I got the extra small this time, and it is slightly tight though a much better fit overall I would say.
The pin is actually much better because it’s all about Forky! He’s talking to a shoe and says “I feel like you really understand where I’m coming from.” Now if this was on the t-shirt I’d be much happier! It’s a cute pin, great for collectors, but I don’t really collect them myself.
Ultimately I’m basically positive at this point that I won’t be renewing the subscription once my six months is up. I don’t collect pins and don’t need to keep the canisters around, so I’m basically paying almost $40 for a t-shirt – that doesn’t really fit right and I’ve only liked 1 out of 2 designs so far.
What theme would you like the see for the Disney Backstage Collection?
