One of the areas of Disneyland I was most excited to visit was New Orleans Square. Out in Florida this area was changed to Liberty Square, an a New Orleans themed area excited me! Plus, there are a number of food spots here, and I love some of the flavors that come from this area of the country.
We decided to have dinner at one of the restaurants here, called Cafe Orleans. We were seated right at the time of our reservation outside on the patio area, which was really pretty and gave us a nice view of that section of the park.
Our service during this meal was really wonderful. Drink refills were brought frequently – so much so that I think I had three glasses of beverage in front of me at once! Everything was done in a timely manner, and our food was brought quickly too. I think our whole meal only took about 40 minutes, so I was very impressed.
But now on to the most important thing – the food! I’d heard a number of good things about particular dishes here, and I have to say they absolutely did not disappoint. We started with the Pomme frites (Traditional French-fried potatoes tossed with Parmesan cheese, garlic and parsley, served with a Cajun spice remoulade).
Everything about this was amazing! I highly, highly recommend it. I love french fries and these tasted great with the toppings. The remoulade was out of this world too. Plus it was a gigantic portion. We shared it and still didn’t finish them despite how delicious they were. I seriously think I will have to eat here every time we go back to Disneyland just so I can have these fries.
For my meal I went with another Cafe Orleans favorite, the Monte Cristo Sandwich (Sliced turkey, ham and Swiss cheese in a light batter, fried and served with berry puree; dusted with powdered sugar).
This was a pretty huge portion, so I think between the fries and this my husband I could have shared. It was delicious, but almost like a dessert/dinner combo! If you don’t like sweet and savory combined then you’ll find it odd, but I happen to enjoy that. It was very, very good and the side of fruit was perfect with it.
My husband went with the Cafe Orleans Salmon Sandwich (Grilled Atlantic Salmon with fresh cucumber tomato relish bacon and our cafe remoulade served on a multi grain roll and with seasoned sweet potato fries).
He enjoyed this and the sweet potato fries, though it’s not like we needed more fries! The salmon was fresh and it sounded very good though I didn’t get a chance to try it myself.
We were too stuffed for dessert, but they brought us out a surprise (and free!) Mickey beignet anyway! She didn’t say why, she just brought it, but I’m guessing it’s because I mentioned on the reservation that we were celebrating our anniversary that week. Anyway, I’d heard such good things about beignets that I had to have at least a couple of bites. It was delicious!
All in all I really loved Cafe Orleans – I feel like this would become the place I always have to eat at when I visit Disneyland. Those fries were amazing. And the Monte Cristo was great, but there were other things on the menu I’d love to try too!
How does the food at Cafe Orleans look to you? Have you eaten here?
The food looks delicious! I’ve still never tried a Beignet, not even when I stayed at Port Orleans in WDW! I’ll have to remember it the next time I’m there 🙂
I actually haven’t gotten around to trying them at Port Orleans French Quarter yet! It’s one of the many things on my list.
New Orleans Square is one of my favorite places in Disneyland. Those fries are one of my favorite items of culinary pleasure to indulge on when I am at Disneyland. Man, I had forgotten about them until now! When I am over in that area of the park to eat, I usually go straight for the bread bowl of clam chowder. YUMMMM.
Ooh, that sounds good. We had the bread bowls over at California Adventure and they were amazing!
The Monte Cristo sandwich, the sweet potato fries and the beinget look amazing. I’ve never been to Cafe Orleans before but the pictures are making my mouth water. I’d love to try it sometime!
It was all so good!
I have not been to Disneyland since I was in high school but all the food looks really yummy. I am from New Orleans so I am very picky about food that is said to be/taste like New Orleans food. I love a good Monte Cristo Sand which! If I go back to Disneyland anytime soon I will have to go check out Cafe New Orleans.
I’ve never been to New Orleans (it’s on my list!) so if you ever get the chance to go to Disneyland I’d love to hear your thoughts!
I haven’t been to Cafe Orleans, but I have been to New Orleans, so I know that any Beignet is delicious! We actually got engaged in New Orleans, so when we make it to Disney this would be a fun place to eat. ps. I LOVE your picture on the side!
Aww,that’s sweet – and if you go to Disneyland it would be a really cute way to celebrate/remember your engagement! And thank you! That picture is one of my theater headshots, though I’m hoping to get a good Disney related photo to put there eventually 🙂
WOW! All that food looks AMAZING!! I’m getting so hungry just looking at it lol
I definitely get hungry remembering it haha!
