Best uses for a snack credit on the dining plan

January 16, 2017 by Becky 10 Comments

Welcome to this month’s Blogorail Red Loop. Today we are sharing ways for you to save money while you’re at Disney.

If you’re planning a trip to Disney on the dining plan, part of your package includes snack credits.  These can be used on a wide variety of things – anything from a bottle of water to an ice cream bar to a cupcake.  Some of the snacks will give you a much bigger bang for your buck, so I’m here to recommend when the best time to use a snack credit is!  Here are a few of my favorite uses for a snack credit on the dining plan (both for taste and value!).

Cupcakes

Disney creates some truly awesome monster-sized cupcakes.  You can find them in various bakeries around property, but I love the Butterfinger cupcake.  You can find this one in Hollywood Studios at Starring Rolls.  It’s massive, delicious, and a great value at around $5.50+.

Dole Whip Float

For many Disney fans dole whips are legendary, and you can get the most expensive version – the float – as a snack credit!

Pastries from Les Halles Boulangerie

There are tons of amazing pastries and desserts at the bakery in Epcot’s France pavilion!  Most of them are snack credits, so just take a look at what they have and pick out what looks most appealing.

Ice Cream cookie sandwich

The macaron ice cream sandwich.

And I’m not talking about the pre-packaged ones from the ice cream stands (though those are good too).  Some of the ice cream places, like the Plaza in Magic Kingdom, will put big scoops of ice cream in between two large homemade cookies.  Or you can get the macaron ice cream cookie sandwich at the ice cream shop in France.

Starbucks

Apparently any sized drink at Starbucks can be had for a snack credit.  So even if you get one of those fancy frappucinos in a venti size, you can use a snack credit for it!

Food and Wine Festival foods

If you happen to be visiting during the Food and Wine Festival in the fall (or the Flower and Garden during the spring) most of their snacks and food items are available for a snack credit.  These can be a value of up to $7.50 depending on the food item so you can get some real bang for your buck here!

Pre-packaged treats

Hit the end of your vacation and you still have snack credits left?  Don’t fear, they can be put to good use!  Many of the pre-packaged snacks and candies that they sell in the gift shops can actually be purchased for a snack credit.  So load up your suitcase and keep the Disney magic going when you’re back home again!

What’s your favorite item to get with a snack credit?

I didn’t know that snack credits could be used at the Food & Wine kiosks! Good to know because some of those dishes are pricey to buy on their own.

Yes! Also Flower and Garden and the new Festival of the Arts. It’s by far the best deal for a snack credit if you’re getting some of the pricier stuff.

It’s been a long time since we used the dining plan. I think getting a funnel cake was our best use of a snack credit back then. Not sure if you can still do that. Anything shareable is a good choice.

Any Starbucks! Wow! I do think the meal plans are the way to go at Disney. I’ll take all the ice cream too 😉

Yes, I love the convenience of prepaying for the meal plan and then not having to worry about money!

I haven’t traveled on the dining plan in ages, but I remember using up all our leftover snack credits on the prepackaged snacks and bringing them home. It was great!

I love doing that – it’s a good way to keep the magic going even at home!

The Dole Whip float is far and away our favorite snack credit! We often pack up extra prepackaged Mickey Krispie treats to take home as well.
